In the city of Ninjago the sunlight glimmered on the bustling streets, which were alive with the chatters of it's citizens.
Amidst the whirring sounds of the city, a well known laughter echoed—a chorus belonging to none other than the famed, heroic Ninja: Lloyd, Cole, Zane, Jay, Nya, and Kai. Their faces were bright as they strolled together, taking a much-needed day off from their duties.
As they were strolling down the streets they found themselves in animated conversations, talking about latest adventures, and laughing about inside-jokes, sharing a bond, formed by a deep friendship based on trust and love, forged through countless of battles.
As they neared the city's central plaza, a small voice interrupted their light-hearted talk. "Oh my gosh! Are you really... the ninja?"
Said ninja turned around and found a boy, no older than seven, tugging excitedly at his mother's sleeve.
The kid's eyes lit up like stars as he recognized his heroes.
"Mommy, look! It's the Ninja!", the boy exclaimed, practically bouncing with excitement.
He wore a shirt emblazoned with their signature logos, and his cheeks were flushed with excitement. "Ninja! The Ninja!" he was still yelling, drawing the attention of passersby.
His mother, a slender woman, head wrapped partially in a scarf, managed a tired but genuine smile. Her skin was pale, her eyes shadowed by a weariness that spoke of battles her young son might not yet fully comprehend. The child let go of her hand, racing towards his heroes.
"Hey there, kiddo", Lloyd spoke, as the boy bounded towards them, dragging his mother along, who gave the ninja an apologetic look for her energetic kid.
But Lloyd waved it off, and smiled. "What's your name?"
"I’m Leo!" the boy chirped, eyes darting from one Ninja to the next, almost overwhelmed by his own excitement and bouncing again.
The Ninja exchanged amused glances, each smiling at the exuberance of youth.
"I’ve seen you fight the bad guys. You're heroes!"
Nya smiled warmly, stepping closer. "We try our best, Leo. But you seem pretty brave too"
The mother, her face pale but kind, nodded. "He's our brave little ninja," she said softly, her voice a melody tinged with strength. "You all are his heroes."
Then they spent joyful moments, telling stories, taking pictures, and laughing until Leo’s eyes grew solemn.
"My mommy is a ninja too," he whispered, as if sharing a sacred secret. "She's fighting a big bad thing called cancer. It makes her tired, but I know she's really strong. Just like you"
The world seemed to pause, even the chatter of the city was suddenly unable to fill the poignant silence that followed.
Cole's face turned ashen.
He felt the weight of those words heavier than any battle he'd faced. He masked his expression, though he couldn't shake the chill that seeped into his core.
Memories unearthed themselves—flashes of his own mother's tender smile amidst her own battle with illness.
Leo's mother gave the ninja a wary smile, the shadows in her eyes undeniable.
With a gentle encouragement, the ninja offered words of strength and hope, but Cole remained quiet, nodding along. The happiness of this lovely day off, however, was unraveling by the seam.
Lloyd knelt beside the child. "Your mom sounds like a true hero", he said gently, while looking in her direction, an empathetic smile on his lips.
She smiled back, fixing the scarf around her head. Now they knew that it was there, to hide the fact that she had probably lost her hair from chemotherapy.
