Dani's POV:
As I reenter the pack house, I notice how the atmosphere has shifted. The once-lively conversations in the dining hall quiet to a hush when I walk in. Dozens of eyes lift toward me, bodies going rigid in unison. It's mostly the new members gathered, with a couple guards and about a dozen of Timmothy's wolves scattered among them.
I clear my throat, letting authority seep into my tone. "Right, everyone. I know today's been long—and intense. I'll be away for most of tomorrow, so it's important to me that you all get a full night's rest before I leave. I am taking some of the others with me to gather more numbers from the two closest packs. Sam, Quinn, and Nicky will remain here to help with anything you need. Use the pack link in case of an emergency. Alpha Timmothy will respect you as his guests—as a debt to me—and he has graciously opened the east wing for us. If you'd all please follow me."
One of the guards steps forward as I turn to leave, offering me a folded slip of paper. Our hands brush as he bows his head respectfully, acknowledging my stature. For a moment, I get lost in thought.
The gesture still feels unfamiliar, like a mantle that doesn't quite fit—yet. I never asked for this, never imagined myself standing where I am now. Yet every nod of respect, every pair of eyes that look to me for guidance, carves the role a little deeper into who I am becoming. Less than a week ago, I was a starved and abused teenage slave. Now, I'm an Alpha, Trihybrid, and destined supernatural queen. I have a mystical wolf, a vampire, and a dragon inside me, for heaven's sake. The sense of whiplash is very real—it's been a whirlwind these past few days. Many look to me for guidance and protection, and I am painfully aware that this is only the beginning. It's overwhelming, exhilarating, and terrifying—and somehow, amidst all the chaos, I feel the weight of it starting to settle deep into my bones as it weaves itself into who I am.
I take the list of room numbers with a nod of gratitude before leading the group down the corridor.
In the east wing, I stop and face them. "Before I start calling out names and rooms—does anyone want to double up for the night?" Twelve hands rise, a little hesitant. "Alright. You guys stand to the side. The rest of you, when you hear your name and room number called, wait outside your door until we're done."
I work quickly through the list, handing out keys and sending them down the hall. When everyone has been called, I turn back to the others with a faint smile. "Now back to you lot, stand beside who you'd like to share with tonight and call out your names. I need to make notes."
A slim brunette speaks first, standing close to the sandy-haired boy she'd been chatting with earlier. "Emily, Josh."
Another pair follows: "Harry, Steve."
Then the rest follow in turn, voices quiet but sure: "Rob, Elenna... Sarah, Evie... Layla, Cara... Rebecca, Zach."
I jot the pairs down quickly, nodding as each name is spoken. The corridor hums with a mix of nervous energy and relief, the first sense of order settling over the new members as they begin to prepare for the night. "Alright everyone, get some sleep, I will see you all when I get back later tomorrow. Goodnight" There's a beat of silence before tjey chorus "Goodnight Alpha" in unison. Once the new members are settled, with a small smile on my face, I take a deep breath and make my way upstairs toward Alpha Timmothy's office. The soft creak of the stairs underfoot reminds me how quiet the building has become. There's one more conversation to have before I can finally call it a night—and it's an important one.
*Meanwhile, Lexi patrols the night sky...
Lexi's POV:
I launch into the night, wings slicing through the frigid air, moonlight glinting off the edges of each feather. The forest stretches beneath me, a rolling expanse of shadows and silvered leaves. The faint rustle of nocturnal creatures in the distance is the only sound besides the rush of wind. I tilt my wings, adjusting midair, letting my eyes sweep every inch of the land. Even from here, I can feel the pulse of the threads beneath me—a steady rhythm, like the heartbeat of the world itself.
