Damian's POV;
The sound of bones breaking and rearranging themselves under her skin, drawing blood makes its way to my ears. I can't help but cringe at the sound, you never get totally used to it. Though, this is different somehow, it sounds more...grotesque?
"That's not normal!" I panic, itching to run to my baby sister. After a minute, a grey fog like smoke surrounds our feet. We can no longer see or hear Dani. It's silent, which is never a good sign. I feel like my heart stops beating in my chest. I'm run towards her, anxiety filling my entire body, when I hear a high-pitched howl as the fog seems to rush back to the black wolf, it reveals, stopping me in my tracks. It seems like the wolf absorbs the fog on command and my mind starts reeling trying to figure out this puzzle, but every few minutes, it seems like I'm given a new puzzle piece to figure out.
The wolf in front of us is as black as ink, with white tipped ears and grey, silver speckled eyes. What really catches my eye though, is the vibrant crescent moon in the centre of her forehead. I know it's Dani in her wolf form and can't control the awe that takes over my face. This obviously catches my mother's attention too, because she stands there beside me with wide eyes in shock. This means that Dani has been chosen by the Moon Goddess herself for something big.
Dani's eyes flash as they meet mine and I can see a storm of emotions in her blue orbs. She's covered in dark red blood, soaking her fur, coating it in the sticky substance. "Damian" she whispers before collapsing to the ground, her body crumbling like a ragdoll. I rush to her side and scream her name. "DANI!" "Oh god, we gotta help her, this was my main concern, her body can't handle the stress of such an intense shift this young." my mother cries, her breath hitching.
We both share a panicked look before we fall to her side and mother quickly pulls Dani into her lap, instinctively rocking her in a loving embrace while I gently squeeze her small paw, not knowing what else to do, before mother gently places her down again. "I'm going to heal her, she shouldn't have survived that" mother says, whispering the last part to herself. See another puzzle piece! This is getting ridiculous. I need answers I mentally conclude. Before I can voice my conviction, my mother puts her hands together over Dani's wolf, and starts whispering in a language I don't recognize with her eyes close In concentration.
It's not long before Kayla's eyes snap open and they glow silver for a moment, scaring me. I look at her ears and see that the white tips of them have started glowing a luminous white. 'How are you doing that?' I ask shocked. 'What?' my mother asks, confused. She opens her eyes and looks at Dani's wolf. She shakes her head slightly and says 'I didn't do anything yet? I don't understand what's happening'. I'm taking in her words when Dani's wolf rolls out of our mother's lap and once again, we hear the snapping sound of bones breaking and muscles ripping. Kayla's eyes and ears glow even brighter.
She no longer looks to be in pain but is still covered in blood. She suddenly scrambles to her feet and dashes to the lake, startling both of us. 'What the hell just happened?' I growl at my mother, who is looking just as bewildered as I am, so didn't even she understand what had just happened. I'm snapped out of my questioning by a sharp short howl from Dani's wolf. I feel Kayla reaching out mentally, so I open the mind link between us and my mother.

-'Hi there, I'm Kayla, nice to officially meet you Damien. I have connected with Dani and come to the surface a lot earlier than you'd expect, seven years early to be exact but there are reasons behind that. I have been watching Dani grow up and I have had the ability to come out for a few years now but I had to wait for the right time as it also comes with a lot of risk. I don't know what is around the corner but, soon enough, I know that Dani is going to need me, so I had to come through now. Danielle, it's time to explain your story to your son, along with the truth about Dani. I am currently blocking her from this conversation. Remember, she can't know of any of this until she is ready. I'm gonna go for a run and scan the area. Answer his questions Danielle, it's time" My mother nods, as Kayla spins on her heels and speeds off to get used to being free.
• 'Mother what does she mean? Tell me what the hell is going on! You said you were going to heal Kayla before she suddenly jumped to life. Are you part witch or something? Why has Dani gotten her wolf so early, how is this even possible? Is she in danger?" She cuts me off as I begin to spiral.
^ 'Sit down son, there's a lot to explain. I told you I would answer your questions, and I will. Though first, I must tell you my secret...'
I frown, bracing myself for whatever she is about to divulge and Alan bristles at the tension in the air.
