Chapter 19: Alpha

Dani's POV:

As we walk in our human forms, the sun starts to rise up and peak over the mountaintops, warning me that I will become an official Alpha very soon, as today is my sixteenth birthday. Goddess that is a strange thought. Growing up I never would have foreseen or even had the courage to dream of being an alpha, especially at this age. Over the last six years whenever I thought of each birthday to come, I would simply deem myself lucky if I was still alive to greet that birthday, so the fact that this is going to become a reality for us in a few minutes, is nerve wrecking as well as exhilarating.

'It's time pup, get ready' Kayla says softly. I nod and stop in my tracks, getting the group's attention. "Alright everyone, we are stopping here. Get into a wide circle around me and close your eyes until I call your names, okay?" I instruct. "Yes, Alpha" they reply in unison. Once we are in formation, I close my eyes and begin to pray to the Moon Goddess.

"Oh, to the goddess of the moon and stars, hear my prayer. Stand before me now, so I may pledge my life to you and the goddess of the sun and earth as one of your only female Alphas. Let me bow down to you, my Graces. Let me-" I'm suddenly interrupted by a beautiful female voice. "Our dear child..." Everyone lifts their eyes, gaping in shock, immediately starting to whisper excitedly amongst themselves, all clearly flustered. "Moon Goddess! Sun Goddess!" I go to get down on one knee straight away, but the moon goddess puts her hand on my shoulder and tells me to stand.

"You do not have to bow to me or my best friend child, you are the rightful queen after all. We made you, Dani Brown, the Queen of all supernatural species on this planet. You are the Werewolf Queen by blood because your mother is actually a royal princess. She escaped the castle from her family's massacre over twenty years ago when she wasn't much older than you and has been on the run ever since." I sputter.

"She named you after her to follow in her footsteps Dani, her real name is Danielle, not Diana. Me and Lydia, put all of our power into you long before the day you were born as a last attempt to save our world from self-sabotage. This world cannot withstand another thousand years in the current state it is in, it will completely implode. It has not been stable for three millenniums, ever since the dragons died out but we gave you one Dani along with a vampire, both of which will surface once the sun has risen above the clouds." I instantly reply with "I'm sorry your Grace, but with all due respect, you must be mistaken I-" but she cuts me off.

"No mistake has been made here Dani Brown. One year from sunrise, you WILL become Queen and both Lydia and I will watch over you on your journey. Back there, your royal blood was activated, which gave you extra strength and adrenaline. Kayla kept all that power under control so they would underestimate you."

"Your wolf has protected you from the truth all these years because Danielle asked her to wait until you were old enough to accept and process it." I look around to see everyone on one knee with their heads bowed low instinctually. Neither of them are making anyone bow but very few ever directly encounter the Moon Goddess in the flesh. In fact, there are only a couple dozen reported cases, so this moment would be seen as scared beyond all else, especially considering she is accompanied by the sun goddess, who is even rarer to meet.

There's actually not a lot known about the sun goddess. The moon goddess is directly responsible for our species' creation but the sun goddess, Lydia, is responsible for more of the nature and magic side of things so our kind are quite ignorant of her history. But Queen? How am I supposed to be a queen and rule over the entire supernatural kingdom? There has to be some sort of mistake here. Why me? My mother was a werewolf royal? My head spins with questions and random thoughts. It starts getting really overwhelming.

"Take a deep breath child, you can do this, and you are never alone. We are always by your side, along with your friends and pack. Now in a few moments, the sun will rise, and your powers will grow once more, which means it is time for me to go." The sun goddess speaks this time and glances at the group, before the moon goddess jumps back in smiling at me as Kayla sits on her haunches were her head held high in my mind.

"Take care of this lot okay and do what feels right to you. Trust your instincts Dani, remember, you are their queen, and we chose you for a reason" and with that they vanish as quickly as they had appeared. I blink, both shocked and confused, feeling like I was coming out of a foggy haze like state, my head spinning slightly at the gravity of the situation strikes my soul. 'D-Dani?' a quiet voice stutters in fear. I snap out of my cluttered thoughts to see one of the younger looking wolves, looking fearfully at me.

Gulping, she looks around frantically as if getting a feeling of impending doom, but keeps her head bowed towards me. I glance to my right and am blinded by the bright sunlight as it starts coming into full view from above the mountains. I inhale sharply as I start to feel a bit anxious. My chest begins to burn, my temperature rising. I drop to one knee steadying myself, taking a deep breath. 'This is it Kayla...' I say as she reassures me. 'We got this Dani, we are the supernatural queen, so being Alpha is just one more step towards our full potential and rightful place in this world before we claim our throne, and just remember, both of the goddesses are with us.'

I sigh at her words, bracing myself as a sense of sudden calm washes over me and my claws elongate; my sharp fangs breaking through my raw gums. My bones begin to break and rearrange themselves under my skin, as my muscles grow and stretch. Everyone instinctively backs up. "Ah Ah AHWHOOOOO" I howl towards the sky, Kayla coming forward so we can share control. I take a deep breath and shift back.

"CIRCLE..." we shout to the group. They step closer once more, circling around us, awaiting further instruction. "Heads down, eyes closed, until we call your name, then step forward. Are we clear?" we order, and they obey. "Bree..." he steps forward and walks up to us. He bows to me and Kayla as I place my little hand on his left shoulder. "I, Alpha Dani Brown of the new Snow Moon Pack, give the thy power of servicing me as my Beta. Do you accept this position Bree Roberts?" he slowly lifts his head to me showing that Dale is fronting with him as one of his eyes is a glowing beige, with a gold ring around it.

"I do accept, Alpha Brown. I swear to the Moon Goddess herself and her best friend, the Goddess of the Sun, that I will help you, care for you, protect you and stand by your side at all times. I shall protect you with my life and follow your every command. I will be loyal to you and only you, my Alpha."

I feel the power flow through me and into Bree as a light silver light gently encases my arm. He groans and his eyes begin to water, his body adjusting to the change. When I slowly pull my hand back, Bree's eye is more of a chocolate brown with gold specks and Dale's eye is more tan in colour, telling me that the power transfer was successful, and Bree's wolf has been given Beta status. I flash him a quick grin before turning serious again. "Quinn" I call and she steps forward, getting onto one knee and bowing to us as her official Alpha...
