Chapter 23: Witch

Dani's POV:

I clear my throat before speaking as a few of the group sleepily rub their eyes, blinking rapidly to adjust to influx of light in the cave. "Listen up everyone, wakey wakey. Bree is missing and we need to find him. He is gone at least a couple hours, and I'm worried he has been taken somehow. I have it on good authority that a witch who has helped my family in the past will be able to help us find him. Her name is Erin, and she is ancient and powerful. She lives deep in the forest of no man's land, hidden and protected by magic and spells. Erin is now expecting me, but I need all of your help. We need more wolves, so we are leaving."

They all start murmuring until Ethan speaks up. "Beta Roberts?! My god...but Alpha, if we leave this area right now, we will surely come in contact with other rogues or the other members of Edgar's pack. We know you are too weak from the shifts to hide our scents this time...are you sure it's a good idea to go today instead of tomorrow?" I smile. "You underestimate me Ethan. Yes, I am currently weak, but you are forgetting I now have the strength of a mystic wolf, a cheeky vampire, and a dragon behind me." Kayla pushes forward feeling smug.

"I swore I would protect you all with my life as your Alpha, and I intend to do so. So trust me okay, you will all be fine. Oh, and you better get familiar with Sophia because soon you will have more wolves to get to know, now get yourselves ready, we leave in fifteen"

Dominiqué's POV:

When the Alpha tells us we were going outside, we know she won't be able to hide our scents and that scares me. I know we were rogues for a long time but even in Edgar's pack we felt safe from those outside of the group because we had vicious wolves with us and as a whole, were feared. We all get up and once our group is ready, we follow the Alpha out of the cave as we descend down the mountain to leave this area, unsure if we will be back here. Hulu stands a little ahead of our group, directly behind Alpha Brown. I think we can all see that Hulu is seriously protective of and connected to her.

I think he sees her as family already and he clearly feels a sense of duty to take care of her. After roughly an hour or so, Alpha looks like she is partly in a daze, looking up at the sky every couple of minutes but still alert, meaning she's linking with someone, but with who? As she leads us deep into the forest on the other side of the river by the cave, she halts. We stop too, confused. "ALPHA, IS EVERYTHING ALRIGHT?" I shout from the back of the group. She holds up her fist, turns around and points to her head, signaling us to use the pack link.

'Stop and wait here. Hulu, come with me, Ethan, keep a lookout. I will call you when you can all come in' What the hell is she talking about? In where? I look around us. Trees, grass, foxes, birds, but no buildings. Then, Alpha closes her eye and a moment later we all feel this overwhelming power forcing us all to submit. We are all forced to our knees, winding us due to the sudden drop as we bare our necks to our Alpha. I lift my gaze just enough to see her a distance ahead of us, her hand on Hulu's shoulder. Then the power vanishes, just like that.

We stand to our feet only to look up and see the Alpha and Hulu gone, nowhere to be seen. We all look at each other deeply un-nerved and concerned. 'Where the hell is Alpha brown and Hulu guys?' I ask scared for their lives, and ours without the Alpha. We can all feel the link so that means she and Hulu are still close, and alive, thank the goddess. Fionn looks around confused but he doesn't seem to care at all about Hulu and our Alpha's disappearance, whereas the rest of us are freaking out.

Dani's POV:

I stop in my tracks, glancing around. I feel something, something is right in front of us, so I ask my mother, looking up to the sky once more. 'Mom, is this it?' I ask, looking around again, unsure if my gut is right or not. 'It is Cricket. Erin is inside brewing a stew. Let your power go darling so she can recognize it is you. She is expecting you.' I raise my fist to the group, turn around and point to my head to use mind links.

I'm nervous of us being out here in no man's land, pretty much unprotected. We don't know who or what could be lurking around listening, so we have to stay vigilant. After I tell them all to wait here and stand their ground, I step forward with Hulu. He gives me an odd look as I take a deep breath and let the power go. It builds up in my core before flowing through my veins. I place my hand on Hulu's shoulder to protect him from my power, and as the others are forced to the ground, Hulu remains untouched by it all and his eyes widen in realization when he looks back at the pack.

We hear the sound of a door opening roughly directly in front of us, accompanied by a small gust of wind that blows my hair back over my shoulders. We look at each other just before we are grabbed by the neck of our tops and quickly dragged inside an invisible cabin away from the others. My breath hitches in surprise.
