The Broken Queen

Chapter 14; Today Is the Day: PART ONE

Dani's POV:

'Today is the day. Get up pup, wakey wakey. We need to get through our chores quickly and meet with up Bree and Sophia. We have 2 hours, its 4am. Let's go!' Kayla's voice wakes me from my intense dream of war. Groaning as I roll over, I sit up and stretch my stiff back. 'We will have a real bed soon' I promise her. Kayla fronts as she takes care of dusting the skirting, cleaning the kitchen and doing the dishes, while hiding her eyes, just in case. After those tasks are completed, I'm given back control and Kayla takes a back seat once more.

I take out the trash and tidy up the living room as quickly as I can before mopping the floor and cleaning up after the pups. The hall is covered in cake, toys, paper, crayons, etc. With thirty minutes left to spare I begin to prepare the breakfasts. Once all those are done, I take some tinfoil and I wrap a small handful of lettuce, tomatoes and scrambled egg for myself and stash it in a vase down the hall.

As the Hierarchy file into the kitchen to have their breakfast at 6:30am, I stand quietly to the side awaiting dismissal from my father. Alpha Reece storms into the kitchen after the others get seated. His breathing is loud, his footsteps are heavy, and his hair is dishevelled. My thoughts race at the rage coming off of him in waves. He walks towards me as soon as he enters the room and grabs me by the neck banging my head against the door beside the cupboard on my left. He releases me after a long, painful minute and I fall to the floor holding my head in pain. Standing in front of me, all I hear is laughter and mocking from both him and the others in the room.

As soon as I am on my feet again, my father shouts in my face. "Don't you dare stay out at night after I sent you to your shack ever again. Beta Jennifer saw you only going to your shack at 11pm, you were supposed to be inside at 10pm!" I pretend to recoil at his tone cradling my aching head, which only encourages them. "Get your pathetic ass out of my face" he angrily instructs. Once outside, as I'm walking back to my shack, I check my to do list before I leave that I had hidden in the waistband of my dress:

Phone- give phone to Ash and tell her to hide it until I call.

Balloons and toy car- give Henry and Sean one balloon each and the small toy car between them to play with when I'm gone.

Ribbon- give Lizzy my hand ribbon and my newer locket that I stole from one of the snobby wolves who wouldnt miss it as it was too 'last season' with a picture of me in one side and the other side left free for her to fill.

Thick black non-prescription glasses - give to Ash as a present as they would look good on her.

Double check packing list - make sure I have everything.

Arrange to meet Sophia and Bree in the clearing to ask Sophia to come with us and to introduce the two of them.

Search for mom's diary - to bring with us and maybe help us contact her.

Steal food tonight to get us through our first 2 or 3 days.

Once I get back, I grab the ribbon, toy car, balloons, glasses, and phone. I then call out to Ash through the pack link and she opens her mind to my communicative nudge. 'Ash? I need you and the pups to meet me right now, it's important. I'm leaving and I just need 5 minutes I swear. Take the pups over to my shack and if anyone asks, just as you came over to say hi. There's a lot to tell you and very little time.' She gave me a quick reply 'okay, we will meet you there in 5.' Ash arrives downstairs with the kids as promised, and I quietly bring them up to my room. Ash gasps in horror when she sees the state of where I have been living all this time.

"Use mind links" I whisper to them. They all nod and I open separate links with Ash and the each of the kids. One of my perks of being a special wolf is I can hold multiple separate links at. Ash is confused at this and is still processing the shock of seeing my room.

Ash

'This is where I have lived for 2 years now, before this, I was locked in the attic of Pack house. It only has one small window which my father had bars installed on so I couldn't escape. Well, now I'm escaping. I have tried to twice before as you know, but I have to succeed this time, or I will die at my own hands here before I have the chance to die at my father's. I'm not going alone but I can't tell you who is coming with me. I have a plan Ash, and I will be back, Kayla has the power to make me an alpha of my own pack as soon as I am sixteen. I am going to build my own pack; I'm going to rescue the vulnerable and imprisoned and then I'm coming back to kill my father and take whoever wants to join me. I hope that will include you and the pups Ash."

Ash looks as if she is gonna cry as her eyes stare back at me with such deep sadness and concern. 'I want you to take this phone, only I have the number. I need you to hide it but keep it on you until I call. I will call as soon as we are safe, and I have gotten supplies out there. I can take care of myself, I promise.'

'As soon as I am let heal, my natural strength will be restored, and I can stop feeding off of Kayla's" She nods while a few tears slowly roll down her rosy cheeks. "We'll be waiting for you honey." She smiles gently and glances at the kids.

Lizzy

I kneel down in front of my niece. 'Lizzy, sweetheart, I love you so much, you are my favourite niece you know that!' I tap her nose and she giggles. 'I'm your only niece silly!' she tells me matter of factly. 'That you are little lady, but I am going away for a while. I don't know when I will be back, but you guys will be coming with me when I do. I want you to have my pink silk hair ribbon and my locket. It has a picture of me in one side and the other is free for you to fill however you wish. I'm going to miss you so much, just don't forget me okay. When I come back for you guys, I will do your hair for you, how about that?' I offer. She smiles with tears in her eyes and gives me a tight squeeze. I pick her up and hold her for a few moments before putting her back down.

Henry & Sean

'Hey munchkins, I'm gonna go away for a while but I will be back I promise, and when I am, you are all coming with me on some cool adventures. I wanted to give you one of these balloons each and this little toy car for the both of you to play with while I'm gone.'

'You be good boys and be respectful okay. Alpha Reece will be mad when he realizes I'm gone but that's okay, just listen to him and stay out of his way. C'mon now, give your auntie Dani a cuddle!' They jump on either side of me and try to squeeze the dear life outta me. I fall over and we all start laughing through the links, even Ash and Lizzy joining in on the laughter at our tangle mess.

After saying our goodbyes to the whole family, I walk back over to Ash and wrap my arms around her in a tight hug. Kayla and I are going to miss her so much. Ash is my sister, and her kids are my niece and nephews, I will be back for them, no matter what it takes....
