'Stop crying!' Miguel shouted. He was losing his patience with the newest anomaly he had captured. No matter what he tried you didn't stop crying. He groaned and knelt down to you, looking at you. He lifted your chin up. 'I'm not going to hurt you, so for the love of God please stop wailing.' You sniffled and nodded, trying to calm down. He reached up and wiped away your tears. He usually dealt with criminals and annoying anomalies, but you were certainly different.
'Buena chica,' he whispered.
'I don't want to hurt anyone,' you whispered. He smiled softly, you definitely were different. Cute even.
'I know.' He held your face in his hand and examined you. 'Do you have anywhere to go back to, little on?'
'No, I don't know where I came from,' you whispered. He nodded and stroked your cheek gently. No home, no family. 'Am I in trouble?'
'No, no you're not in trouble. You didn't mean it, did you?'
'No, I was just trying to survive,' you said. He nodded and tucked your hair behind your ear.
'You don't have anyone do you, little one?' he asked. You shook your head a little as he smiles. Trying to not seem too wicked in the moment while his mind formed an idea. 'That's okay. You don't need anyone, I'm going to keep you safe from now on.'
'Really? But why? I thought I was in trouble,' you whispered. He enjoyed how scared and innocent you seemed.
'Well, I know you didn't mean to hurt anyone. You're just lost and alone. You've had no one to guide you, to discipline you,' he said. You looked at him in confusion.
'But you don't know me.'
'I don't need to know you, niña.' He combed his fingers through your hair. Wanting to wash away all of the sweat and dirt and see how perfectly soft your hair truly was. 'You don't need to be afraid. All you have to do is listen to me. Can you do that, sweetheart?'
'Why are you speaking to me like I'm a child?' His face darkened with that question. His hand stilled in your hair.
'And you won't question me either. Because you won't like the consequences.' He paused. He leaned in closer to you. 'I need you to promise me you'll listen and be good. Otherwise you will be in trouble,' he whispered. His voice was low and threatening.
'Okay, I will. I'll be good and I'll listen. I just want to stop running and stop living like this,' you said. He smiled, his features softening.
'Good, good girl. I know you don't want to live like this anymore. You don't deserve it. You can stay with me, right beside me,' he said. The idea sounded promising, definitely better than the way you'd been surviving so far. But the way he looked at you was like he was admiring a porcelain doll.
'Can I have something to eat?' you whispered. He chuckled softly and finally let go of your face.
'Of course, you must be starving, little one.'
--
After eating you sat in Miguel's office and glanced around.
'This place is weird, I've never seen anything like it,' you muttered. Miguel glanced at you while he tried to get as much information on you as possible. 'Where do you even sleep?'
'I have an area set up, don't worry I'll make it more comfy for you,' he said. He moved over to where you were sitting on the desk. He took your face in his hand again.
'Why do you look at me like that?' you whispered. He ran his thumb over the skin of your cheek, admiring your face.
'You remind me of someone,' he whispered as you looked up at him. You were about to ask him who before he pressed his thumb to your lips. 'Don't ask, I'm not going to answer it.' You nodded a little, you didn't want to go against him. He seemed infactuated with you, but he also seemed like a dangerous man when provoked. He stared at you for a few moments longer. 'I know somewhere safe you can rest and shower if you need.' You looked at him with intrigue before he coaxed you to stand up. 'There's a reality I go to sometimes. Nice apartment, clean water, good food and no one questions me. It sure beats sleeping in this endless void filled with spider people.'
Eventually you made it to the 'nice apartment' that was actually a pretty sizable penthouse. You looked around in awe as Miguel smirked.
'Bit better then the streets, sweetheart?' he asked. You chuckled and looked back at him. That same look was still in his eyes. He reached up, running a hand through your hair. 'You're so beautiful,' he said. You looked at him with a cautious look.
'Thank you,' you whispered as he smiled.
'Why don't you go take a shower, wash up. I'll make up the guest room for you,' he said. You nodded and he finally let go of your hair. 'Good girl.'
