_______

Recap- Victor was holding their little one and Aurora was admiring them.

The black car rolled past the wrought iron gates of the Romano mansion, the winter sun casting a soft golden hue over the stone walls and grand balconies.

Aurora leaned against the seat, a faint tired smile on her lips, cradling their tiny daughter close to her chest. Victor’s hand rested protectively over them both, his thumb gently brushing the baby’s soft blanket as if reassuring himself she was real — here, safe.

As the car stopped, the mansion doors opened.

Servants lined both sides of the entrance, heads bowed respectfully, smiles sincere. Some had known Victor since his ruthless, colder days — none had ever seen him like this. Softer. Full.
“Welcome home, sir… ma’am… and little miss,” the head butler said, voice slightly thick with emotion.
Aurora stepped out slowly.

Victor immediately offered his hand, helping her down with such gentleness it could break a heart. He took their daughter briefly into his arms — the tiny girl sleeping peacefully, unaware of the world that adored her already — while Aurora adjusted herself.

A light applause broke, quiet but warm. A few maids softly whispered blessings. Someone offered Aurora a small bouquet of white lilies.

Then her family arrived.
Her mother rushed forward first — tears in her eyes, a trembling smile. She hugged Aurora carefully, mindful of her healing body.

“My child… you did so well.” She pressed a kiss to Aurora’s forehead before turning to Victor, voice soft but serious.

“Take care of her. She’s still weak. No lifting heavy things, no staying up too long, don’t let her exhaust herself. Understand?”

Victor simply nodded, jaw tightening slightly. Every word. I’ll remember.
Her father placed a warm hand on Victor’s shoulder. “Proud of you, son.” His voice cracked slightly. Their relationship has easened a lot.

And Chris — a bit awkward, hands in pocket — simply smiled as he peeked at his little niece. “She’s so tiny…” he whispered, wonder in his voice.

Aurora only laughed softly but weakly, brushing her hair behind her ear, dismissing her mother’s worries with a small shrug. “Mom, I’m fine. Really.”

But Victor glanced at her out of the corner of his eye —

No, you’re not. And I won’t let you pretend you are.

The warmth of home embraced them. The fireplace crackled inside, fresh linens dressed the bedchambers, and the staff quietly arranged everything the baby might need — from warm milk bottles to lavender-scented blankets.

Aurora finally sat on the couch, the baby in her arms again, sunshine pooling around them. Victor stood beside her, his hand resting lightly on her shoulder.

For the first time in a long time… the mansion didn’t feel cold.
It felt like family.
