Aitana never knew how fascinating it could be to watch someone knit. She used to watch her grandmothers knit all the time, and her own mother for that matter...but never in her life did she ever think it was as amazing as it was right now.
How the hell did Spencer make it look as such? He eyes were zoned in on his project. The tiniest little creases decorated his forehead, but what was most adorable to Aitana was the way he stuck his tongue out at the corner of his mouth every once in a while.
But Spencer was so focused on the last bit of his colorful scarf to notice Aitana's longing stare.
He was behind schedule, yes he was, and Penelope was going to kill him.
It was very unlike him to fall behind on his things. He liked schedules, he liked routines, and this should have been no exception.
He and Penelope had a convention today — something she had invited him weeks ago to — and so he set out to wear the perfect costume. Penelope was overjoyed with his idea and was eager to see it since they would basically compliment each other's costumes. He would've been done if it hadn't been for a certain petite brunette with freckles and adorable brown eyes.
Aitana asked him on multiple occasions, without knowing of his previous commitments, if he could accompany her to once again help her search for the missing fish to her collection. Each time Spencer said yes without a second thought. Instead of finishing up the damn scarf, he was out with Aitana forgetting about everything else.
It was only when Penelope happened to ask his progress when Aitana was around that Spencer had to come clean to both of them. Aitana reacted with an embarrassed laugh and profusely apologized for distracting him that much.
Penelope later laughed at Spencer about the whole thing. "Aitana distracting Dr. Spencer Reid? Story of his life!"
Spencer didn't appreciate the joke at all. He was just grateful that she decided to laugh after Aitana had walked away.
So, the day of the convention, he finally sat down to finish the scarf. Except that Aitana was also there with him in his apartment, having offered to drive him and Penelope to the convention to avoid parking costs. Now here she was, looking pretty as ever, waiting for him to be ready.
"Do you have any plans today?" He asked in an effort to be less conscious about his thoughts about her. His fingers may have also been in danger of fumbling.
"Mm?" Aitana blinked out of her trance. "Oh!" She straightened herself up on the couch, clearing her throat and hoping her blush wasn't too visible. "Um, well, Elia and I thought we would go to dance practice today. Haven't been back in a while. Between work and school, there's not much time for a life."
"And you're sure we're not cutting into that right now?"
"What? Oh, no, no. No worries," Aitana said with a shake of her head. "It's an open practice today. It's Saturday, so...we're fine. How about the scarf? Is it done?"
"Yeah, just a few more turns and...voila!" Spencer put the knitting tools down on the coffee table. "All done!"
"Wow, you're so good at knitting," Aitana said as she took the colorful scarf into her hands. "Is there seriously anything you can't do?"
"I can think of a few things..." Spencer mumbled as he watched her. He could say so many things and yet when it came to her, he was rendered speechless. Thirty years of his life had gone by smoothly (sort of) with his vocabulary and now here he was, struggling so hard to string a few words together.
Someone knocked on the door so fervently that it startled the two. Spencer got up from the couch and went to open it.
"I cannot believe you, Dr. Spencer Reid," Penelope came striding into the room, decked out in a Doctor Who cosplay, "We are going to be late! Aitana will — oh, you're already here." Penelope stopped at the sight of Aitana. She looked at the scarf in Aitana's hands then at Spencer. "Hm, interrupting?"
