"You'll be reading in Japanese, my friend. I promise you that I will be extremely fascinated by you."

Aitana was hard at work in her office when someone knocked on the open door.
"Morning," Spencer greeted her and raised a brown paper bag in his hand. Before he could even explain, Aitana dropped her pen, dead serious when she spoke.
"You're in grave danger," she said, leaving him startled.
"What, why?"
"Because if that's a treat, you're gonna need good luck. I'm starving."
Spencer let out a small laugh and walked up to her desk. "Okay. It is food — breakfast. Penelope said you've been here very early these past days."
"Yeah, I'm just trying not to fall behind again," Aitana said, sighing, "Kind of like 'stay ahead while you're ahead' thing?"
"I get it," Spencer nodded, but Aitana scoffed.
"No offense, Spencer, but I don't think you've ever fallen behind on anything," she said with a shake of her head.
"What? I have," Spencer argued weakly as he started trying to come up with a specific moment to back his point.
Aitana snorted. "Yeah, right. Your superior intelligence could never let you fall behind. You're like Mr. Perfect."
"I doubt I'm close to that..." Spencer said with a warm flush on his face. He lost the battle when Aitana firmly assured him that was not the case. He thanked his luck that she was preoccupied with the stack of papers on her desk. He was blushing like mad.
"Little people like me need to work twice as hard to stay on top of things," Aitana said as she removed a couple of papers from her stack and placed them on another pile to her left.
"Well, if you're determined on cooping yourself up in here, how about some breakfast?" Spencer slid the bag in front of Aitana.
Aitana took a peek inside the bag and immediately got the nice warm scent of french toast sticks. "Oh, those look delicious!" She exclaimed with delight. "Thank you so much!"
"Yeah?" Spencer didn't realize how nervous he'd been until then. "I-I know that your parents have a bakery so I-I figured you would...you would have your fill on sweets..."
"No, no, I love this! French toast sticks and — oooh!" She had found the little container of syrup to dip the sticks in. "Oh my god, you're the best!"
Spencer smiled at her excitement. "Enjoy breakfast!"
"Hold on!" Aitana stopped him as soon as he turned away from her desk. "You're not just going to leave me all by myself to eat, are you?"
"Uuh..." Spencer had no idea how to respond. It wasn't in his plans. He had genuinely worried when Penelope started pointing out how many hours Aitana spent in her office before and after cases without breaks. He got a lot of taunts from the others when he decided to go for the breakfast thing but he assured everyone that it was just a friendly gesture.
And yet when Aitana motioned him to take a seat with her, Spencer found that it was hard to say no.
In fact, he had no idea when he decided to sit down either. Hypnosis. It had to be that because he wouldn't be able to explain how Aitana got him to do things without even thinking.
She happily offered him some french toast sticks from the bag. They had a nice breakfast together filled with mundane topics that for some reason made the atmosphere feel sweet and comfortable. Neither one would admit to it, though. It was better to relish in it rather than start asking questions about it.
