Defying Broadway Gravity

I wake up ready to start my first day back on the job! Luckily my understudy/ standby has been filling in for me this week. I get dressed in a shirt I got from The Little Mermaid Broadway company when I saw the show for the first time (I saw the show in total 9 times).

Kyle knocks on my door signifying that he has come over for breakfast. I open the door and he smirks at my shirt, "Ariel, really? She isn't even the best princess!" I get ready to rip Kyle's head off when he starts to chuckle, Only joking! You are getting as red as your hair Tamiel!" I laugh and try to loosen up, "that nickname might be accepted since it had Ariel in it!

I hear a pie ding on the door then hear a familiar voice say, "Kyle? Is this where you live?!" I jump up in excitement and scream, "Bernadette!!!!" She looks confused for a second but without hesitation in gulfs me into a hug.

"What are you doing here?!" Bernadette smiles, "Kyle told me this is were he lives?" Kyle turns red and screams, "NO!... I mean their would be nothing wrong with being roommates with you Tamsin but-" I cut Kyle off, "stop embarrassing yourself..." Bernadette laughs at us and sits down at my tall chair table. "Kyle comes over every morning and eats breakfast for us, doctors orders..."

Bernadette sighs, "I heard about-"

"HASN'T EVERYONE! I get fan or should I say hate mail every day! I don't even know how they get here! Not to mention the newspaper headlines! I honestly can't go in public anymore! It is horrible! EVERYONE SEEMS TO KNOW I HAVE ANOREXIA!"

Kyle and Bernadette are quite, "Well at least now they do!" I put my head down on the table and Kyle puts his arm around me in a half hug. Bernadette stays quite, "well I guess I will go check on breakfast..."

I sit up and go into my bathroom and put on some makeup. I put concealer on my blotchy eyes, mascara and eyeliner on with a little bit of blush so I don't look so pale. I grab my curly hair up into a messy bun. I put on my combat boots and sit back down beside Kyle and eat some cereal.

On the way out of the door I grab my scarf and jacket. At the subway Bernadette and us part ways but she makes a promise of coming and seeing the show tonight.

When we get to the theatre I head into my dressing room and a few people like Mark, Nicole, and Jennifer (Elphie stand by) come and visit me! When the annoying voice calls half hour a little while later Rex wonders in with a bagel and tea for me. "Thanks you so much Rex!"

Craig walks in and starts to get to work since I am already changed and Rex sits down on my floor, "you really need to decorate this place," Rex decides right as Kyle walks in, "I completely agree!" Suddenly Kyle acts as if Lightning has struck him," Could I decorate it, Like all of it!" I shrug, "why not, just do not make it pink or anything like that!" With that Kyle prances out of the room, "that now worries me..." Craig nods and we both laugh.

After I am done becoming green the butterflies start to kick in. Rex has already left to go get dinner before the show (since he is seeing it). I warm up with everything I know and run through all of my songs with an open mind.

The voice on the intercom calls five minuets till places and I go to the stage to watch Sadie go in the bubble. I go to the stage and Sadie is just getting hooked into the bubble, "Brake a leg Sadie!" She grins at me, "back at you! Oh, happy Broadway debut!" I sigh, "Sadie this isn't my Broadway debu-" Sadie cuts me off, "of course it is!" I smile at her, "yes, yes it is! Thank you! Have a great show!!!"

The show goes by in a blur I make it through the first act and actually wearing my black dress in front of an audience felt amazing! As long as your mine was amazing! I think I might have gotten the most applause after no good dead! This feels amazing, just the feeling of being on stage! 

When we get to the trap door scene when Fiyero cones and gets me I feel magical popping out of the ground like you do! Sadie looks truly hurt and the scene goes by in a blur. We make it offstage and I he'd back to my dressing room and start to take my dress off. My dresser runs into the room saying, "YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO BE ON STAGE!" I look at her confused, "what?" She yells, "THE BOWS! YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO MEET ME IN THE QUICK CHANGE! Quick, get this dress on!"

I zip into my black mermaid dress and the audience had started cheering my name with Sadie leading the cheering. I think some pink was showing through the green! Sadie points it out, "see I told you that pink goes good with green!" I laugh at her while she points at me. We gather the cast and we all bow together.

Sadie decides to do something els too, "if I could barrow another moment of your time please. You guys can sit down! I just wanted to announce that this is Tamsin's Broadway Debut! So this is her first show and we couldn't be more proud of our little Elphie!" Everyone applauses and we bow one more time as the current closes.

I am blushing like a maniac, "Did you really have to do that Sadie?!" I ask her jokingly but I hear my voice echo. My mic is still on. Sadie starts laughing and I hear some of the audience laugh too. 'Great,' I think to myself. Sadie, Kale, Mark, And Nichole all gather me in a hug and Sadie pushes me to my dressing room (even though she is in a fifty pound dress) and watches me start to degreenify. After I start getting my makeup off she walks to her dressing room to change.

I am about to get in the shower when Rex walks in. We both run at each other and we both hug while he spend me around like Roal and Christine in Phantom 25 but bot kissing... "You were absolutely amazing Tammie!" I smile, "thanks Rex! It means so much to me that you think it was good!" Rex laughs, "it wasn't good, it was phenomenal! You were amazing Tammie!" I blush and kiss Rex on the cheek, "thank you, I have to get this," I indicate my face with green on it, "off, wait here I will be done in five minuets!"

I jump in the shower and sing a little 'Little mermaid' stuff and I can here Rex laughing in my dressing room. When I am done I step out and chafe back into my little mermaid outfit and put my hair in a side braid.

Sadie runs into my room telling me to follow her and I do, we make it to the stage door and Sadie tells me to grab a sharpie from the sign in desk and I grab a lime green one. Sadie walks out and everyone cheers, then I freeze. I am at the stage door... I have dreamed of doing this my whole life! I suck in a deep breath and walk outside with my brother following.

Everyone cheers for me and I laugh, "thank you! You guys are so sweat! What an amazing crowd!" I glance at my brother and say, "oh and everyone this is my twin brother Rex!" His face immediately gets red as everyone cheers for him. I giggle and he nudges me in the ribs and I nudge him back.

I go around signing playbills and taking photos with random people until I get to one girl who says, "oh my goodness you did amazing! But is it true you passed out on opening night on stage?" I sigh, I talk loudly so people can here, " I new this would come up and I think everyone should hear this, it is my own fault I fainted! I do not self harm and I wish that people who do self harm to would see the light but well... When I was in high school I was told the only way I could be on Broadway was to be skinny... It is NOT true! Look at all of the successful Broadway stars out there! They are not sticks! So I began starving myself. When I got Wicked I was not anorexic. The reason why I passed out is because I was stupied and worked myself way to hard! I would come to the theatre for regular rehearsal and not eat all day because I would work and work and work! So I passed out from lack of food or hunger. I got a concision in the process and was in a comma for two weeks I think...? My point is, you are not perfect because no one is perfect but God, do not change who you are to become something els and be good to yourself! Don't worry about me now though, someone like Sadie, Kyle, or Rex will eat with me everyday."

Everyone is quite for a moment but the girl who asked the question is frozen, "what is your name?" I ask here. She swallows, "Melissa.." I take her playbill and sign, 'don't be perfect because it is not perfection that anyone will achieve, be yourself! -Tamsin Gasper." I give Melissa a hug and she smiles at me. I finish signing playbills then walk home with Rex who is crashing on my pull out couch. I think about what I wrote on Melissa's Playbill all night.

An: long time no see? I am going to be really busy this year! It is my last year of middle school and I am moving to a different City in the summer and applying to a preforming arts school. Plus my mom and I are looking for a house to live in and all of that stuff. I am also in advanced theatre so I am competing in UIL and have lots of homework! I don't make any promises!
