MIKE AND WILLS POV
Mike and Will biked side by side, their bikes rattling beneath them as they made their way to the grocery store. The air between them was thick with the kind of awkwardness that only comes from waking up accidentally tangled together, and knowing that Richie and Eddie had seen everything made the feeling even worse. The teasing had continued the second they left the house, loud and merciless, every word making Will's eyes dart away, his jaw tight, Mike's hands gripping the handlebars so hard his knuckles turned white. Both of them just wanted to disappear, wishing they could at least get to the store before they lost their minds.
"Mike and Will, sitting in a tree—" Richie and Eddie's voices chased them down the street, relentless and annoying, the kind of teasing that made Will's cheeks burn from cringing so much, and Mike's hands clench tighter around his handlebars. It felt like they'd been singing it forever; they couldn't wait to get to the grocery store so Richie and Eddie could go to the ice cream shop next door and leave them alone.
When they finally turned onto the street that split off to the store and the ice cream shop, Richie and Eddie shot ahead, their laughter echoing behind them, leaving Mike and Will in a sudden, almost painful quiet. Mike let out a breath he didn't even know he'd been holding, shaky and uneven, and Will's shoulders dropped, the tension slipping off just a little, but not enough. They kept pedaling, alone again, but the silence between them was thick, and neither of them could find the words.
They reached the grocery store too quickly, the ride over before either of them was ready, like time was rushing them into something they couldn't handle. Their bikes clattered to a stop, and as they fumbled with the locks, Mike kept glancing at Will, all these words building up in his throat, words he couldn't say, not the ones that mattered, so he just swallowed them, let the easy ones come out instead.
