"Dad was married when you guys were together!?" Lexie was genuinely shocked. She had no clue in the world that her father would ever do something so awful.
Meredith laughed at Lexie's shocked face.
"Do you remember Addie Montgomery? The surgeon who delivered those sextuplets like, five years ago?" Meredith asked, trying to see if her kids remember Addison.
"Dr.Addison Montogmery! How could I ever forget her, she's like a legend! She's amazing!" Lexie gushed. Okay, so she did remember.
"Wait, the hot redhead who came over for dinner with her kid, what was his name, Henry?" Bailey asked. Meredith nodded, right before Zola smacked Bailey on the arm.
"Sofia is my BEST friend. We were friends before you were even born. She's your girlfriend. Don't call some other chick hot, for gods sakes" Zola grumbled as Bailey said sorry.
"She was married to your father. For twelve years" Meredith said, as she saw all of her kids jaws drop.
"You HAVE to be kidding me, right?" Lexie squeaked.
Meredith shook her head no. She didn't have anything against Addison, not anymore anyway, and she actually thought she was quite nice. She didn't know if her kids would have the same opinion though.
Bailey whistled "go dad. First Dr.Montgomery and now Mom. He was quite the dawg back in the day"
This time, Ellie hit him with a pillow. "You're disgusting Derek Bailey Shepard" Bailey just laughed.
"Well what happened!?! Did he leave her for you? Did he explain what was up? I had no clue he was married when you met" Lexie babbled as Zola sighed.
"Let her tell the story, Lex" Zola said, exasperated.
Meredith only laughed as she started up her story again.

Meredith's POV:
"Mer, just go into that hospital with your head held high. He's the one who should be ashamed" Christina said as she rubbed my back. I wasn't sobbing anymore, I was just tears and emotional.
It wasn't fair.
"What are people going to think?" I sniffed "that I'm just some intern who slept with an attending for surgeries?" Christina noticeably stiffened a bit. I had no clue why, but I just assumed she just didn't like this topic. She's my best friend, of course she didn't want me spoken about that way.
"Maybe you should talk to him. He might've had a reason" Christina tried to reason. I sniffed and shook my head no. I just wanted us to stay curled up on my couch, eating cookie dough and watching the notebook (which Christina hated with a burning passion).
About halfway through the third round of the notebook (and also halfway through a third tub of cookie dough) the doorbell rang. Christina was in the bathroom, so I took it upon myself to complete the hard and annoying task of answering the door. (It sounds dramatic, but when you have as many trust and commitment issues as I do, break ups this awful are about ten times worse)
I got up, slowly but surely. A part of me was hoping I'd be so slow that the ringing would stop and the person would leave. But I couldn't get that lucky.
I answered the door, and as soon as I saw who awaited me on the other side, I promptly slammed it again. But, of course, his foot was in the way and keeping me from closing the door.
"Meredith I just want to talk" it was Derek's voice. The one I grew to love and hate all in the same amount of time. I opened the door wide enough to see him, so I could tell him where to go and how to get there.
"Derek I don't want to talk" I croaked. My eyes were red and puffy from crying, tear tracks stained my cheeks, my nose was stuffy, I wasn't wearing make up, I had on pink pyjamas and my hair was long gone to the birds.
"Please" his voice was defeated, like just by me telling him to leave, his heart was breaking. I would've felt bad, but I was crushed and crumbled, broken so much I doubted I could be repaired. So, instead of opening the door and letting him in like every single instinct in my body screamed and ached for me to do, I sighed and inched the door closed.
"Go home Derek" I said, my voice tired and worn "go home to your wife" before he could protest, I slammed the door.
Leaning back against the door I just slammed, I slowly sunk to the ground and buried my face in my hands. I was broken. And I didn't think I could be fixed.
Christina came from the hallway and sat down beside me.
"D-Derek h-h-he c-c" Christina cut my pathetic sobs off.
"I heard the whole conversation, it's gonna be okay" she sat with me, slowly rubbing circles in my back. She didn't try to talk, and God was I grateful. She was my best friend and she always knew what would make me feel better.
She just knew.
