Rain poured. Loud, violent, dark.

Sonic pondered out the window for just a moment, before drawing the curtains shut. For a moment, it was quiet.

Cling!

And there goes some ceramic.

Sonic walked back to the kitchen, watching Shadow stare at the plate for a moment, before looking back at Sonic.

"Sorry," he mumbled, looking around for a broom.

Sonic shrugged, walking over, "It's okay," he said, one arm rounding Shadow's waist, kissing his cheek, "What happened?"

"Was reaching for a cup," Shadow pouted, stopping in his tracks, subconsciously leaning into safety.

Sonic patted Shadow's waist, "I'll clean up."

The rain was louder, and Shadow didn't quite leave Sonic's embrace, closing his eyes there, purring softly. The weather was cold, clouds hiding sunshine. It had been dark for a few weeks now, which drove Shadow to quite the corner.

Sonic knew Shadow wasn't doing very well in darkness, despite Shadow insisting he was fine. Shadow was slow, quiet, blurry. His reaction speed slowed down, body quieted. And worst of them all — mood. His mood chart, quite literally, depressed.

Sonic wasn't sure how to help. Shadow always dealt with his problems independently, and Sonic respected that need. Shadow would reach out if he truly needed it.

Sonic leaned into Shadow, lips gentle against Shadow's forehead. His free hand patting Shadow's back, soothingly, quietly. "You okay?"

Shadow nodded, nuzzling into Sonic's chest, just needing some touch. It was grounding. He didn't seem to want to leave, despite mumbling something about wanting to clean up the broken shards of ceramic again.

Sonic didn't mind. He didn't know what exactly Shadow needed, but he would try to give his all to help him feel better.

"Let's go to the bedroom. We'll deal with the plate later, okay?"

Shadow nodded, quietly shifting to allow Sonic some mobility. Sonic, arms still around Shadow, slowly guided Shadow on the soft carpet, not talking, nothing. He opened the door for him, closed it for him, hooking off the fabric of Shadow's shirt that stuck to the doorknob.

"Hey. Are you okay?" Sonic asked again, hand running up and down the side of Shadow's waist, "You're curling up again."

Shadow nodded, shifting before leaning into Sonic's chest again. He nuzzled closer, cheek against warmth. Sonic patted Shadow's back, "Want to lay down?"

Shadow nodded, "I want a kiss," he pouted softly as Sonic guided him to the bed. He sat down with a gentle impact, looking up at Sonic, "I want a kiss."

"Heard you the first time, baby," Sonic said, smiling a little. He knelt down, lifting Shadow's hand, rubbing the back of Shadow's hand, before kissing it.

Shadow giggled a little.

Sonic was just looking for that smile. He felt so blessed to be able to just... make someone laugh everyday. To hear someone complain about their job in bed. To hear someone cry and confide in him. He couldn't imagine his life without Shadow. Honestly. He was in love. He had a crush.

Don't tell Shadow though.

Shadow pulled his hand back, hands resting on the bed, "I mean on my lips," he giggled again, "Don't be such a gentleman."
