Chapter Forty-One (Luke's POV)

Even though Czara was a native Californian, she still walked around Irvine that day with such enthusiasm that I couldn't help but admire her. She was always so positive and happy; always smiling from ear to ear. I took her to a candy shop, which was probably a bad idea in retrospect, but her giddiness was truly infectious.

The other had gone off by themselves; we all agreed that it'd be a good idea to let Michael and November have their day together. We hadn't seen much of them lately; they were usually just cuddled up in his bunk or in the back room playing video games together like they used to do. It was nice to see them getting their spark back after so long without it. And I know that Czara and I were glad to be able to rest a little easier knowing that they were okay again. Now, I could really be with Czara; nothing was hindering my now, and nothing was on my mind but her.

She skipped along the sidewalk, glancing back at me a few times as her long hair swayed playfully behind her back. She almost tripped a few times, but that was just her being her normal goofy self; the goofy self that was drawing me in closer and closer, more in love with her every day.

"Luke!" She screamed out of nowhere, snapping me out of my daze.

"What?" I snapped my head up a little too fast.

She pointed at the horizon, the sun slowly beginning to make its way towards the water and instantly I knew what she wanted.

I lunged down and pulled her onto my back, running carefully across the street and into the thick sand. I was trying hard not to trip with her on my back; I didn't necessarily have the best track record with carrying people on my back. Calum could tell you about that.

I walked with her perched on top of me just to the waters edge and set her down gently, our eyes locking as her toes squished in the sand. Before I could get too lost in her gaze, I grabbed her tiny hand and pulled her down into the sand with me. She nuzzled up close by my side as we looked out across the ocean.

"This is so beautiful," she sighed, her eyes fixed on the reflections that danced across the waves.

"Yeah, it is," I said. But I wasn't talking about the sunset. Sure, that was beautiful too, but she was the thing that had captured me.

She turned and smiled at me, her perfect teeth shining like pearls in the dim sunlight.

"I love the colors."

"I do too."

I grabbed her hand and turned to face her, my toes buried in the sand with her toes.

"Czara, when I said that it was beautiful, I wasn't talking about the sunset. I was talking about you."

She stared back at me with her iridescent blue eyes, her mouth open as her eyelashes fluttered wildly in shock.

"Luke, I—"

"I know that before all this, years ago, before the fame and the awards and the money that we were friends. You were my best friend, besides Mike of course. But it was a different friendship with you. You were always different; you always drew me in to you. And I think a part of me loved you back then but I am certain, so certain—with every part of my soul—that I am in love with you now. I am so in love with you, Czara Young. And I couldn't be more sure of it than I am now."

She just stared at me, her mouth agape. I wasn't sure if this was a good or bad reaction, but I just couldn't stop this outpouring of feelings. When I looked at her in this light, it just did something to me that I couldn't explain.

"I'm not trying to scare you or anything with all of this but I just...with everything that's happened recently with everything, I wanted you to know that no matter what people say or how famous we get, you'll always be the one I want."

When I looked up this time, I had expected her to have the same expression on her face. What I hadn't expected were tiny tears rolling down her perfect unblemished cheeks. I scooted in to her immediately and wiped the tears with the pads of my thumbs as she closed her eyes. I lifted her chin with my finger and brought her eyes to mine.

"What's wrong, love?"

She let out a sharp laugh and a huge smile.

"Nothings wrong," she looked at me with light in her stare. "Nothing could possibly be wrong right now."

She brought her forehead to mine and I kissed her nose gently. She scrunched it up at my touch; I would never get over moments like this. We sat this way for a few moments, the sounds of the tide serving as our soundtrack of serenity and peace. I never wanted this moment to end.

Czara leaned her head and shifted in position to face the horizon once more, the sky now a deep lustful red. As the sun began to peek below the horizon, she whispered something quietly to me, her words just barely audible above the sound of the waves.

"They can have their sunrises; we'll have our sunsets."
