Aarushi

I just sat there, staring at nothing. Everything felt suffocating. I didn't want to be vulnerable, not in front of him. He must be thinking I am such a crybaby, even though he is hurting too.

I didn't know how much time passed, I was still sitting near the marine drive.

I remember how we thought we would come here together, but fate had its cruel ways.

I look at my phone to find it already switched off. Shit. How will I book my Uber? Ugh. How can I forget to charge my phone?

I don't think I can get an auto at this hour. Great. So now I'll have to walk. I ran a hand through my hair, exhaling slowing.

I started walking ahead, no idea where the road would take me. Stop making everything literature. I reminded myself.

"Watch out." I hear someone scream, I turned back just in time to see a bike rushing towards me, followed by three more.

I recognised Aadi's bike immediately. What is he doing here?

He threw his helmet to the side and rushed towards me. "Are you okay?" He asked, checking me up and down. I nodded.

"Thank God. You scared us there, Ahuja." Rishabh said coming towards us.

"What did I even do?"

"Really? You are not back in your hostel, your phone is off and no one knows where you are." Aadi said, voice harsher than before. "What if something had happened to you? Are you out of your mind?"

"Stop it." I said keeping my finger on his lips. "I am okay and you really didn't to rush all the way here to find me. I am not a child. Don't scream at me."

"I am not screaming at you. We were worried were you because apparently you have the habit to disappear when things get hard."

Really? That's what he thought of me?

"Why do you even care? You just know what you went through." I could feel the tears spilling. Shit. I couldn't be weak.

"You ran away like a coward. You ran away from us. You didn't try to fix things, you broke them."

I had never imagined being a villian in the eyes of someone you admired me the most.

"You don't know anything." I whispered.

"You didn't trust me enough to tell me." He said stepping back. "You pushed me away when I needed you the most."

"You are right, it was my fault. And it's better this way."

"I hate you, Aarushi."

"I know you do. You have made it clear."

I looked around to see all the three guys staring at us. Fuck. This is not good.

"Um guyss, that felt like a fight exes would do." Ishaan said staring at Aadi. God, How am I gonna answer the girls..

"Shut up." Aadi said glaring at him. He turned to me. "Get on."

"No thanks. I'll be fine."

"Aarushi, don't test me right now."

This was a serious conversation but I couldn't help but giggle through my tears. He sounded like an angry dad.

"Why would I test you? Covid thodi na chal rha hai."

He looked at me with the 'are you serious?' Expression and I burst out laughing. I have gone mad. Maybe running away from things is all I know.

"That was a lame joke." Risabh said laughing along.

"Not that bad." Kabir joined in. "I can drop you?" He asked.

"Sure." I nodded getting on his bike. I could feel Aadi's sharp glare on us.

"So what's going on between you and Aadi? I thought you both didn't know each other?"

"I don't want to talk about it Kabir. Please."

"I am sorry, I won't ask again." He mumbled.

"Bitch, what the fuck?" Trisha stood at the door, arms crossed, glaring at me.

"I was just out for a bit." I said smiling.

"For a bit? 5 fucking hours are a bit for you? We were worried for you, Aarushi."

"I am really sorry guys, now if you would let me in?"

I entered the room to find the other two glaring at me. "Can you guys stop threatening me with your looks?"

"We would once we know what is going on between you and Aadi." Nisha said grinning.

"Nothing." I said immediately.

"Ishaan told us a different story." Nisha said raising her eyebrows.

"Come on, tell us Aarushi."

"Don't you consider us your friends?"

"I do but _

"No buts."

"He is a stranger. A stranger I once knew too well. A smile I could recognise anywhere. A stranger that made my eyes light up."

"Sida sida bolna ex hai." Siya said laughing. "It took me 2 business days to understand that poetry."

"Why didn't you tell us?" Trisha asked.

"That I am your friend's ex?"

Aadi's Pov

She was okay. I reminded myself.

You don't know anything. She said. How would I?

Flashback

"Aadi, I think we should break up."

"What? Did I do something wrong?" She looked at me, eyes void of emotion.

"No. I just can't do this anymore."

"Can't do what?"

"Pretend that this is going somewhere." I felt like someone broke my heart in million pieces.

"Sweetheart I_

"Don't." She said finally meeting my eye. "Don't call me that." I took her hands in mine.

"Just tell me what's wrong? I'll make it right. Please sweetheart, don't leave me."

"I am sorry but it's over. You and me. We are over, Aadi." She stood up, ready to walk away from us, from everything we had.

"I need you. Please. Don't leave me, Aarushi. I beg you." I kept repeating the words over and over again but she didn't care. She didn't look back.

"Don't try to contact me."

Flashback ends.

I blink away the tears that threatened to escape. She didn't care enough to spare a glance at me then, she has no right to say I don't know anything.

I begged her to stay, but she didn't. Because maybe we were never meant to be.

I hate you, Aarushi Ahuja. I hate you for making me so emotionally weak that I couldn't learn to live without you.
