Their Second Chance

Raina's POV.

Raina's eyes flew open wide, still hearing her heartbeat in her ears as her breathing remained heavy.  She shifted her eyes back and forth looking from one spot to the next as she processed what she had seen. No. It wasn't true. It couldn't be. Closing her eyes she focused on the presence again and the signature came back the same. Again and again she checked. The same. Her eyes snapped open now filling with tears, and barely above a whisper, she smiled.

"I'm pregnant."

As fast as she could she rushed to Leia's room with Artoo following behind beeping questions. Ignoring his beeps she knocked on Leia's door. The door cracked opened to reveal a half asleep and groggy Leia.

"Raina, it's 2 o'clock in the morning." She rasped. "What's going on?"

"I'm pregnant."

After a sleepy moment to process what she had just announced, Leia's eyes grew wide, swinging the door open. "What?!"

Raina nodded unable to contain her smile. "I'm pregnant." She repeated.

"You're-You're- Are you sure?"

"Yes. Absolutely positive."

Her sister-in-law smiled widely and embraced her. The two laughed happily at the joyous news. "I can't believe it!"

"I honestly can't myself!"

Leia pulled away. "Were you all trying again?"

Raina shrugged. "I mean yes and no. After trying again for a little while I think we just came to peace that we weren't meant to have kids. We didn't not try though. I can't believe after all this time..."

Raina couldn't stop smiling. "Oh, Leia I'm so happy! I don't know what to do!"

"How are you going to tell Luke?" Raina shook her head nervously.

"I don't know. I have no idea. We didn't expect or even plan on this."

Her sister-in-law held her hands and looked into her eyes. "He's going to be thrilled."

The corners of her lips turned up and she nodded. "I guess I'll tell him when he gets back. I can't believe it!"

The next day Luke, Han, Ben and Chewie returned and made their way to the palace. Raina and Leia sat out on the patio chatting. Stopping mid-sentence Raina sensed her husband nearby.

"What is it?"

"Luke. He's here." She grinned.

Leia closed her eyes briefly. "Yes and Han and Ben." She opened her eyes, looking at her. "Are you going to tell him?"

Raina shook her head. "Not just yet. Not here."

Leia nodded, but eventually looked thoughtful. "I wonder why he never sensed it."

"He did. He just assumed I was sick. I think we both did. I believe we put that so far behind us that we didn't even think to look into it."

Leia nodded. "I understand."

"They're about to come out here." She told her.

"Leia!" Han's voice greater them.

Leia stood and went to her husband. "Han!"

The two embraced. Raina stood folding her hands in front of her watching the two with a smile. Just then she saw her husband step out onto the coping through the glass doors. As soon as his eyes landed on her he sighed with relief and he sprinted over to her.
"Raina."
His arms embraced her. All Raina could do was smile as she and her husband reunited.
