Désiré wasn't actually present during this time. She had left before. Gave me that red diamond ring, told me she loved me, not playfully this time, but with every century of ache and joy she'd carried for me. And for the first and only time, I said it back.

"See you in another life, maybe. Or in dreams. Or in the next world I hop to." Her smile... was heartbreaking. The last smile I ever got to see from her.

If I had known I'd eventually lose her, maybe I would have said it sooner and more. But that's in the past now... In the end, I couldn't even shed a tear afterwards. I didn't beg her to stay or anything. I just... let her go, like her part of me was breaking off, and I couldn't stop it.

...

Maybe that's why I had never actually worn the ring she gave me. I kept it in my pocket everyday, but I felt like I wasn't worthy to actually put it on my finger. So, through this whole journey, it was still on me, even when the senate...

Well, in the past, you weren't actually there. So, I did resign and they took the egg away from me.

These old buffoons. *Sigh* To think I tried telling everyone this was all just a dream, but I ended up getting carried away too.

Fufu. I like it when you let your feelings speak, dove. In any case, 10 years later, I was called back to the castle by Baur. The letter he used has the Draconia emblem, which means Her Majesty herself requested my presence. Though the senate and other nobles wouldn't have been happy about that, which is why it was a secret.

He lead me to the Cradle Tower. And there I saw, after so long... Malleus. You know already, dragon eggs need both magic and love to grow. So, the Tower was basically used as an incubator since he did not have his parents to help him hatch.

I was still surprised he hadn't been able to hatch in 10 years though, even though Lady Maleficia, his grandmother, was channeling magic to the tower herself. But it turned out that, for  the first five years, the egg accepted the magic that Lady Maleficia supplied. While it was slow, there was growth. But eventually it rejected her magic infusions.

Lady Maleficia even spent what spare time she had visiting the tower to hold the egg in her arms. But even that had done nothing to help.

Maybe he wanted you. The one his mother handed him to.

Maybe... Maybe he would have hatched instantly if you had been there and just placed a kiss on his egg.

*Nudges and pouts* Don't joke like that.

Heh. In any case, Malleus seemed to have indeed been rejecting his grandmother. And with all the tension happening at that time, she couldn't afford to remain with the egg constantly.

So, they sought you.

So, they sought me. I did not know what I, of all people, could do to help. But... *Sigh* Maleanor and Lady Maleficia already put all the responsibility on me, so I had no choice if I didn't want to be torn apart in this life and the next one.

*Chuckles* Right...

I traveled to a lot of places for 2 years... People there thought dragons were just storybook creatures.

Eh? There really was such a time in this world?

They thought I was crazy! And fae were considered "monsters" back then, so when they saw my ears, I had to leave as to not cause any scene.

Your ears are cute.

*Smirks...*
