"Here, Silver. Say "ahh."" Lilia is feeding baby Silver.

Baby Silver

"Ahh... awmph" His little cheeks puff out as he eats.

'Messy... I normally hate this but, right now, I find this... cute.'

"First milk, then grains, and vegetables stewed to the point they're mush? Are you sure this will help him grow?" Lilia asks Malleus.

"That's what it said in that human childrearing book. As fae, I don't see how we're in a position to do aught but follow its instructions."

"But you've eaten meat on the bone and seafood and such since you were a little boy..."

"Yes, because I'm a dragon, not some frail human."

"When you were hungry, you cried. When you were full, you slept. Babies are babies be they dragon or human."

Malleus sighs softly at Lilia's words.

"Gracious, you licked that plate clean. Did you like that food, Silver?" Lilia smiles at baby Silver.

"Goo... Ah..." I want to bite his cheeks...

"That's a good boy." Lilia wipes his mouth clean, thank you "Eat up, rest up, and grow up. I worry you might tire of the same flavor every day, though. Suppose I gave the soup a few creative twists Armadillo meat is supposed to be nutritious. I could mix in some of that, or perhaps some powdered blacknewt..."

'Oh, no. It started already...'

Malleus, certainly feeling the same as me, intervened "I'd advise against it. I'll schedule regular deliveries of baby food from the castle. It unsettles me to think of you shouldering this responsibility on your own."

'Good excuse, baby dragon.'

"Oho. I thought you disliked humans. What brought about this change of heart?"

"If the baby grows weaker, it would make you sad, would it not?

Lilia smiles softly "... You're a sweet boy, Malleus."

My heart tightens more and I place my hand over my heart.

Malleus turns to me, my breath hitching. He reaches out... and takes something behind, his hand phasing through me.

'... What am I thinking? This is memories. All just memories.' I shake my head and move on.

A lullaby? Once upon a dream... Maleanor's version. But... I hear multiple voices.

Once everything clears out, I hear a knock and see Malleus stepping in Lilia's house "Lilia, I'm coming in. The fae in the forest were gossiping about you taking in a human infant. I see the rumors were-"

Lilia shushed him "Shh! I just got him to sleep. Keep your voice down, would you?"

"... What is this strange creature? It looks like a hairless monkey."

'Mal-Mal! Meh, that's true.'

"It's the baby you heard about. His name's Silver. Isn't he adorable?" Lilia cooed at the sleeping baby.

"You call this adorable?" Malleus raises an eyebrow.

"You came at a good time, actually. I'm going out for a quick shopping run. Watch Silver for me while I'm gone."
