Chapter 31

Botan is sitting with a coin in his hand, throwing it up and down every once in a while to keep his mind entertained.

Keeping your mind entertained can be very essential when you have someone like Reina sitting beside you, speaking absolute nonsense that's going in one ear and out the other without Botan's mind sparing a single ounce of interest in capturing what she's actually saying.

Boring.

He mostly picked her because she's pretty, but he soon came to regret it when he figured she has nothing valuable to say. If she's not talking about her looks, she's talking about some stupid drama with her friends who probably don't even care about her existence as much as she thinks they do. 

After Reina became Botan's endear, her social circle has increased drastically, so the drama he has to listen to keeps piling up and eventually piss him off. Too bad she'll feel the devastating truth of the people around her once Botan throws her to the curb in 2 months when their contract is over. 

He can't wait for that day to come.

Even though this beautiful girl is currently sitting beside him, leaning against his arm and pressing her breast against him while fondling his bicep, Botan isn't captured by her in the least. Not when something... or someone much more interesting is currently occupying his thoughts.

He tosses the coin once again.  

"I have no interest in a party held by someone like Botan."

Aside from beauty, there's one more thing that Botan tends to like about the humans he pick to be his endear.

Feistiness.

And he has come to know that a certain endear is indeed very feisty. And the fact that Botan can't have him just makes the whole thing more interesting. The surpreme has never been one to discriminate in terms of gender, even though most of his endears have been women.

But weirdly enough, it's a man that's currently flooding his thoughts. 

You see, Botan did in fact go to seek out Raiden himself. In the company of Reina and her god-awful friends, he managed to pick out Seki's endear in a mall a while back. Of course, he has no wish to die, so he stayed in the shadows as Reina approached the man without trouble.

And oh boy, was he in for a treat, because Raiden reacted even better than he could have imagined. 

Sure, Raiden is just a way for Botan to get to Seki in the end, but won't it be much more entertaining when Raiden will actually give him a run for his money? Botan always likes a challenge, but any rational person would know that going after Seki Masahiro's endear might as well be suicide. 

Botan has waited centuries for Seki to find a mate, and he came to know that this scumbag has a shockingly good taste in humans. 

Seki gaining something in his world of nothingness surely is a catch, because it inevitably means he now has something to lose. 

And that's when a very particular plan started to brew in Botan's mind. A flawless one, if he could say so himself. 

To put it simply, supremes can survive the loss of their endear, but an endear cannot survive the loss of their supreme as long as the 1-year pact is active, or the final pact is sealed. When a pact is active or sealed, a human's lifespan is entirely dependent on the supreme. Which means... If Botan can forge a pact with Raiden, it may be the only thing capable of shielding him from Seki. 

Seki has started to care a little too much for this human. 

Botan despites love, like it's a disease meant only to ruin the rationality of everyone who will ever get to experience it. So, you can imagine his surprise when he saw the interactions between an endear and a certain number 1 supreme, who appeared head over heels for some human. It even puts Botan in a bad light that a guy ranked higher than him could be contaminated by this horrible disease. 

However, Seki certainly won't have the guts to kill Botan if it means losing Raiden, and that gives opportunities. Lots of them. 

So maybe it's a good thing that Seki has fallen victim to this awful plague.

At the mere thought, Botan feels a smile spreading on his lips as a giddy sensation emerges in his stomach. 

He wanted to speak with Raiden in that mall himself to get a taste of the upcoming year he will be spending with him, but the supreme is not stupid. If he gets anywhere near that endear with Seki in the area, he will get in trouble. 

So... he just has to wait for their pact to be over.

6 months. 

"Botan, can I invite Ema to the party?" Reina asks. 

The surpreme just hums and gently moves his arm to free himself from her grip. I don't give a fuck. He stands up and starts heading in the direction of the door, just in a helpless attempt to escape the endear. Reina complains behind him, but he honestly couldn't care less what she says to him, nevertheless who she decides to bring along to his celebration. 

As long as he gets showered in recognition, he doesn't care who it's coming from.

And he will get a lot more of it once he finally knocks Seki from the ranks and takes his rightful spot as the number 1 supreme. 

Even though he has to wait 6 months for Raiden and Seki's pact to be over, he can't just hang around. He has research to do.

That's the thing about feisty people like Raiden. They will put up a fight. So, you have to have the upper hand from the get-go. 

And for that, you need knowledge, which Botan is very determined on getting, no matter the challenges it might bring.
