The next few months went by rather quickly. I had become quite the Elf as Arwen would tell me. The two of us had become rather close almost like sisters. She had taught me to fight with a sword and to channel my inner self to make my elf powers come alive. One thing that I didn't like was the outfits. I used to only wear jeans and a t-shirt now they have me in an Elvin dress that compliments my skin tone and hair color. Other than that I loved Middle Earth except at night, every night I would constantly see Sauron's eye searching for me and I would wake up screaming; And unlike my parents back home on Earth, Elrond would always show up to make sure I was alright.
Gandalf would randomly show up with stories about the hobbits and when he announced that it was soon to be Bilbo's birthday I jumped at the chance to go on an adventure to see the shire.
"Please Elrond; I just want to finally meet Bilbo and Frodo."
He smiles as he says, "Of course but do not leave Gandalf's side, there are many forces that wish to do the princess of Lothlorien harm."
I nod and without thinking run over and wrap my arms around him. "Thank you."
After a brief farewell Gandalf and I set off on our way to the shire.
To keep my identity a secret I was placed in rogues' clothes which made me happy to actually be in pants instead of a dress. My long hair was pulled back and wrapped in a bun that my hood hid my gender and my ears. The trip to the shire took longer than I would have expected but the scenery along the way was breathtaking. I lay against some boxes staring up into the sky as I suddenly feel the carriage come to a stop and I glance forward to see Gandalf talking to someone hidden behind a tree. "You're late." I hear a young male voice say and smile as I realize who it is. "A wizard is never late, Frodo Baggins. Nor is he early. He arrives precisely when he means to." Gandalf replies and in an instant Frodo leaps onto the carriage and hugs him.
"Ah before I forget, are you still eavesdropping back there?" He asks and I smile as I say, "Of course not just simply admiring the bromance from the comfort of the back of your carriage good sir."
He chuckles as he turns to Frodo and says, "Frodo this is ______, she has wanted to meet you for some time now."
I smile as I sit up and turning toward him say, "It is such an honor to meet you Frodo." He smiles as he says, "As it is to meet you ______." His blue eyes shine back at me and I feel my smile soften. He was smaller than I thought he would be, and a lot sweeter and kind than the book had given him credit for.
"Well shall we, I am sure your uncle is waiting for us?" Gandalf says as he ushers the horse forward toward Hobbiton. Meeting Bilbo was an excitement all its own I had so many questions I wanted to ask him about Smaug and Thorin. Most of the questions I had were about Smaug. I asked him how big he was, how ferocious he was, and finally what it was like to be in his presence. Of course Bilbo was more than willing to talk about Smaug but one thing he didn't want to talk about was Gollum. I only asked Bilbo about him when we were alone and he was surprised by my knowledge of all that had transpired in Gollum's cave.
"How do you know about the ring?" He asks me when I ask him about it. Letting out a sigh I pull my hood off to reveal my Elven ears and say, "I am not from middle Earth. I am from another kind of Earth and there they write stories of your adventures including the arrival of the ring that is most likely in your pocket at this very moment." His eyes widen as his hand reaches into his pocket and gently cups the small metal ring in his hand. I smile as I say, "Don't worry I do not wish to take it from you nor do I wish for the burden it comes with; but what I do wish is that you leave it behind when you travel to Rivendell. Frodo shall take good care of it."
He stares at me confused for a moment as he says, "How do you know- ah never mind I know the answer. Alright then I shall leave it behind for Frodo."
"Thank you Bilbo."
He smiles as he looks out over the landscape of Hobbiton and letting out a sigh says, "It never felt the same after the adventure I had."
I nod as I say, "Home is one place that is never the same after you go on an adventure and see what you have seen."
"Either way I shall still miss it."
"It is beautiful, and luckily it shall always stay this way."
"Well I best be off, it's a long way to Rivendell."
I nod and gently pulling my hood up and am about to say something when Gandalf shows up and says, "Can I speak to Bilbo privately?"
I nod as I slowly climb the hill to the very top that overlooks all of bag end.
Bilbo was right it was definitely beautiful. It was definitely nothing compared to Rivendell but when the word 'Home' entered my mind I let out a sigh. Even If I had been born in middle earth it was missing something. I had no idea of course what that was but it made me feel empty. I lean back and glance up at the sky as the memories of when I was a child and my family was actually happy to have me filled my mind. My mother's warm hugs and my dad tossing me into the air like a doll. I had to admit I did miss them. I start to feel my mind drifting off to sleep when I hear a familiar disembodied voice calling my name.
"______... I know where you are... You cannot hide from me for forever... I will find you and bring you to Mordor where you will be my slave..."
"Leave me alone!" I yell out as I cover my ears with my hands.
"You cannot run from me, no one can protect you from your destiny..."
I feel someone touch my arm and I quickly draw my knife and hold it up to the person's throat only to see a frightened Samwise Gamgee staring back at me. "Sam?" I say my voice barely above a frightened whisper.
"Are you alright miss ______?" He asks as he sits next to me on the soft grass.
I let out a heavy sigh before I turn back to the horizon and say, "I am, I just had a bad memory pop into my head." He nods as he turns to look the direction you were.
"Gandalf and Mr. Frodo are talking inside I found it rude to be eavesdropping." He says as he turns back to me.
I smile mischievously at him as I say, "There's nothing wrong with eavesdropping on an old wizard." I quickly grab his hand and dragging him to the back window hold a finger up to my lips to keep him quiet.
We listen as Gandalf and Frodo talk about the ring then Sam accidentally snaps a twig alerting Gandalf to our presence. I watch as the older Wizard yanks the young hobbit through the window and end up laughing so much that he ends up yanking me through as well. "_____ I expected as much from Gamgee but from you, I expected a little decorum." I place my hand over my face as I try to quit laughing.
"I'm sorry, I just couldn't help myself." The wizard raises an eyebrow at me and I instantly cease my laughing. "Sorry," I reply as I watch him talk to the hobbits about heading to Bree.
"Where do I go?" Frodo asks and I find myself saying, "Bree, Gandalf will meet you at the Prancing Pony." They all stare at me and I mentally slap myself. 'Dammit, why you gotta let your mouth get the best of you?' I say to myself as I bite my lower lip.
"She's right. We'll meet your there."
"Well, why don't I go with Frodo? I can make sure he gets there safely."
The wizard stares at me for a moment before he says, "Can I speak to you for a moment?"
Nodding I follow him into the other room where he turns to me and says, "I do not think it wise to venture away from me at this time."
Rolling my eyes I say, "Look I already know what happens and believe me I am safer with him."
He raises and eyebrow and I sigh as I say, "If I tell people the future then it'll get messed up so I'm not going too, just trust me. I will keep the hobbits safe."
He thinks for a moment before turning back to me and saying, "Very well, but please keep yourself safe as well."
You nod as you turn back to the Hobbits and say, "Shall we be off?"
