Do It Again

So, I'm going to try writing song fic to see if I'm any good at it.

There you are standing with all your friends so I wait 'til you're alone again. And the minutes feel like eternity.

Rydel had gone out with some friends all night, and Ellington had waited patiently by the front door to hear the sound of a car pulling in. Eventually, he does, and looks out the window to see Rydel standing on the front porch chatting with Lori and some girls Ellington doesn't recognize. He sits at the window for what feels like forever, but is in reality around ten minutes.

All these words buried inside my heart. Every step feels like the hardest part, but the last six feet are gonna kill me.

Ellington finally makes his way outside as Rydel waves goodbye to the car pulling out of the driveway.

"Oh, hey Ellington." Rydel says, sending a small smile his direction.

Ellington sent her a sad smile in return. He had so much he couldn't say to her. He couldn't ruin their friendship.

So just take this chance, I've got it all planned...

"Rydel, want to go somewhere together tomorrow night? At around 8?" Ellington asks Rydel, leaning against the wall.

"Sure. See you then." Rydel kisses his cheek in a friendly way before entering the house, her shadow disappearing into the darkness.

I'll pick you up at 8 and we can drive around

"Where are we going, Ellington?" Rydel asks from the passenger seat as Ellington drives through the countryside.

"We're just driving." Ellington says, smiling slightly due to her curiousness.

Take you to the beach and we can head downtown

"I hope you brought your bathing suit." Ellington says, grabbing Rydel and pulling her into his arms.

"I did, luckily." Rydel says as she removes her shirt and shorts, her bikini exposed. Ellington picks her up and throws her in the water, laughing as she runs out, sopping wet and hugging him.

After they both are dried off, they climb back in the car and head downtown.

"How do I look?" Rydel asks, laughing as she twirls in the vintage style dress, a huge hat on her head.

"Beautiful." Ellington says, smiling at her.

While you hold my hand

As they're walking back to the car, Ellington felt a hand clutch his own nervously. He squeezes it reassuringly, turning towards Rydel and sending her a small smile.

We'll park and lay down on the hood of my car, listen to the airplanes as we count the stars

Ellington drove to the middle of nowhere, parking on the side of the road next to a random field he climbs out and lays down on the hood of his car, putting his arms behind his head as he looks up at the sky. Rydel joins him, laying her head on his chest. They both silently take in all of the beautiful stars, the almost silent whir of an airplane in the distance.

Tonight I'll be your man, and tomorrow we can do it again

They head home, hands clasped together over the center console.

"Ellington? Will you always be here?" Rydel asks, sending Ellington a loving look.

"Of course, Rydel." Ellington says.

When they arrive at the house, they both climb out, Ellington throwing an arm over Rydel's shoulders due to her shivering.

When they reach the front porch they both stop and turns towards eachother, staring into eachothers eyes. They slowly lean towards eachother, and before they know it, their lips are on one another's.

They both pull away a bit later, leaning their foreheads against eachother, staring deeply into the eyes of one another.

"Maybe we could do that again sometime."
