This was actually fun to write and was taken into consideration to be used as an idea for an entire new story. If you believe that is a good idea, then tell in the comments below. Enjoy the final part of Apocalypse.

"What are we supposed to do?" Emma was the first to speak up, her eyes wide with panic. Rydel wasn't sure what to tell her; all of her thoughts would only make the young girl panic more.

"I'm sure it won't be that hard to open." Ellington speaks up, approaching the door and beginning to push on it. Still, the door wouldn't budge.

As Ellington began to put more pressure on the door, Rydel felt her thoughts become muddled. Where was she? Who were the people she was with? Blurry images passed through her mind, none of them coming into focus. Flurries of colors, dark blues, grays, oranges, pinks, all flashed through her mind, until one of the images came into focus; the little girl Ellington had killed. Rydel remembered her name being Sarah, and that she was an extremely bubbly little girl. How had the disease set in that fast? Rydel had just seen her a few days previous. But then, Rydel remembered what she had seen on the news that day. The reporter had said that scientists believed the disease was only spread when any type of physical contact was made with someone who's being had been completely taken over. The disease took between several weeks and several months to develop.

But then, Rydel realized what it had meant; she was developing the plague.

Three hours later, they still hadn't found a way out of the closet. Though it seemed they had an endless supply of food, they knew they wouldn't be able to survive in such a small space. Rydel had pushed herself against the back wall of the closet, behind a stack of canned goods. By the looks of the closet, their family had been preparing for this outcome for a while.

Ellington had tried comforting her, but she refused to let him touch her. She didn't want to take the chance of giving him the disease. Ellington was currently using a piece of metal he had found under piles of food in an attempt to pry the door open. Finally, he gave up, throwing the piece of metal to the floor angrily. As he did so, a pounding began on the other side of the door. Someone was beating on the door. They all jumped in surprise, Ellington, Seth, and Emma staggering to hide with Rydel in fear. Rydel knew she should also be scared, but she only had one thought; she couldn't let the three of them touch her. It was too big of a risk; she didn't want to accidentally pass the deadly plague she was currently developing to any of them. As she slowly scooted away from them, someone began talking outside of the door.

"Emma! Seth! It's us! They're coming! Let us in!" Emma felt Seth stiffen as he recognized the voice of their mother.

"That's our mother's voice." Emma says in a monotone voice, no emotion identifiable in her tone.

"Should we trust it?" Now it was Ellington's voice filling the silence, and Rydel could instantly tell he was full of nerves.

"Why should we trust it? For all we know, those zombie things might be able to speak." Or be developing the disease, Rydel thought.

"They're not zombies. Our parents were scientists, and they knew this outbreak was coming sometime. They studied the first victims for years. The disease took over the mind and caused all of their thoughts to be muddled together. Eventually, they couldn't think straight, causing the eyes to become clouded over, which gave them the yellow appearance. Our parents didn't leave us. They caught the disease from one of their patients. They ran off to keep us safe." All of this poured from Emma's mouth and before anyone could respond, the pounding began again.

"Let us in!" The same voice was now screaming, and Rydel felt helpless. What if they really were innocent people, and they were to die because they couldn't find a way to open the door? With that, Rydel jumped up and threw herself at the door, causing it to break down easily as she threw all of her body weight against it. Though, on the other side, she was caught in the arms of a man in a quarantine suit, who roughly grabbed her and put a cloth over her mouth. She then fell into a deep sleep.
