“Papa God, thank you for all the blessings that you gave us today. Thank you for taking care of me, Mommy, Lolo and Lola. And Lord pwede po bang humingi ng favor? I know that Mommy is happy now but can you please send someone who will make her even happier? Someone who will help me in taking care of her. ‘Yun lang po. I love you Papa God. Amen. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen. Good night Mommy. I love you.”
“Teka muna. Where did you get that idea that I need someone to make me happier? Who taught you that?” Sarah asked her daughter Cassie.
“Narinig ko lang po si Lolo and Lola talking. They said it’s time that you find someone who will take care of you and will make you happy.”
“Baby, don’t listen to conversations of grown-ups. At sino naman ang nagsabi sa ‘yo na kailangan ko ng taong mag-aalaga sa akin. You are taking care of me. I am taking care of myself. I don’t need another person to take care of me.”
“Of course you do Mommy. What if you get sick and I am in school, who will take care of you?”
“Nand’yan naman si Lolo and Lola ah.”
“But they’re busy. Palagi naman sila nasa tindahan.”
“Eh di si Manang na lang.”
“But Manang cannot hug you or give you a kiss to make you feel better.”
“Ikaw na bata ka, kung anu-ano ang naiisip mo. Matulog ka na nga.”
“Mommy, I hope you’ll meet someone na mabait who will take care of us. Sana he’ll be nice enough to be my dad.”
Sarah felt her heart breaking upon hearing her daughter’s words. She hugged her tight and gave her a kiss on the forehead. “Matulog ka na. Good night my baby. I love you so much.” She stood up and walked towards the door.
The following morning, Sarah reported to the Human Resources Department of the company she’s working for. About a month ago, she was told that she will be transferred to a newly opened Marketing unit. She will be under a new boss and will be working with two other people. Today is the day that all four of them will be introduced to each other and will officially be working in this new unit.
“Ms. Sarah, sa training room po ang orientation n’yo this morning. Pero ikaw pa lang po ang dumadating eh,” the HR Assistant told her.
“Okay lang. Pwede ba akong maghintay doon sa loob ng training room?”
“Oo naman. Nakaready na doon ang coffee n’yo. Mauna ka na rin magcoffee.”
“Okay. Sige, thanks ha.” But before heading to the training room, she made a side trip to the ladies’ room to check herself. When she entered the training room, she was greeted by the smell of freshly brewed coffee. “Mmm… ang bango,” she said out loud.
