Tying Loose Ends

"Are you ready to do this?" Gerald asked Sarah.

The three of them were at Jollibee that Saturday afternoon. This is the time they've decided to tell Cassie about them.

"I am but I'm so nervous," she confessed.

"She's a very intelligent girl. She will understand what we're going to tell her."

"I know but this is my baby we're going to talk to."

"Correction... she's our baby. I know she will be happy with our news."

"Sige na. Let's get this over with."

"Teka lang. I'm just gonna get her sa play area. You stay here and ready yourself.

A few minutes later, Cassie was seated next to Sarah with Gerald right across them.

"Ah Cass, Tito Ge and I have something important to tell you," Sarah started.

"Okay Mom. What is it?"

Now it was Gerald's turn to talk. "Remember that day that we became bestfriends?" The little girl nodded. "You said you've been praying to God to give your mom someone who'll take care of her. And then you said if I could do it while you're still waiting for that someone?" He saw her nod again. "Well, is it okay with you if I take care of you and your mom permanently?"

Cassie's eyes lit up and looked from Gerald to Sarah and then back to him. "You're going to be my second dad?"

"Ang bilis naman anak. Daddy agad?"

"Well, that's my future plan. But for now I will still be your bestfriend and your mom's..."

"Boyfriend," Cassie finished for him.

"Ha... ha... ah yeah, you're mom's boyfriend."

"Is it okay with you baby?" Sarah asked.

"Okay? This is more than okay! God answered my prayer and made it even better. Tito Ge just promise me that you will make my mom happy everyday."

"I promise."

"Great! Now I'm so happy. Tomorrow when we go to church I'll thank God for giving you to my mom. You will be going to church with us, right?"

"Ah... yeah. Sure."

"Good. So God will see you agad when I say thank you to Him."

Sarah watched as Cassie talked to Gerald like a mature person. She was starting to get emotional but tried hard to hide it. She didn't wanna ruin the precious moment between her two loves.

Some few months later...

"Ma'am Sarah, may naghahanap po kay Sir Gerald. Ano pong sasabihin ko?" Paolo, Sarah's staff asked.

"Ha? Sino daw?"

"Ah eh... Kasi..."

"Sino nga?"

"Girlfriend daw po s'ya ni Sir Gerald. Eh di ba ikaw 'yung girlfriend n'ya?"

"Chismoso ka. Papasukin mo na nga lang dito," Sarah said trying to hide her shock.

"Sige po."

A few minutes later, Paolo ushered in a model-type girl - tall, slim, very fashionable. "Hi! Are you Sarah?" the visitor asked.

"Yes. And you are?" she said as she stood up to meet her by the entrance of her cubicle.

"Hi!" the girl excitedly said and gave her a quick hug. "I'm Camille. Gerald's girlfriend. Well, actually his ex-girlfriend. He has told me so much about you. It's nice to finally meet you. Well I'm back here in the Philippines for a business trip. I thought I'd surprise Gerald but I was told he's not here."
