“Ma?”

“Da?”

”Magshower ka na. I’m done,” he said.

“Ha?”

“Sabi ko magshower ka na. It’s your turn.”

“Ah. Si-sige, sige,” she stuttered. It took a lot of her will power to finally break her stare and move. She knelt down on the floor beside her luggage and rummaged through it. She found her change of clothes and toiletry bag. “There are fresh towels inside the bathroom,” she heard him say. She walked to the direction of the bathroom without uttering another word.

He got dressed while she was having her shower and prepared the bed. After he was done, and she was still inside the bathroom, he got his laptop and settled on the bed with it. He decided to check on his emails while waiting for her.

She has been finished with her night rituals and was already fully dressed for about 5 minutes now but she couldn’t bring herself to open the door and go out. “Kaya mo ‘to Sarah. Act casual. Wala naman s’yang binabanggit eh. Hindi naman s’ya nagpapahiwatig. ‘Wag ka na kasing assumera. Lumabas ka na at malamang nagtataka na ‘yon kung bakit ang tagal mo.” She held on the knob and took a deep breath before finally going out. She saw him on the bed doing something in his laptop.

He looked up from what he was doing when he heard the door. “Okay ka na?” he asked.

“Oo Da.”

“Halika na dito,” he said as he tapped the space beside him. She slowly walked and got on the bed as if making too much movement would wake something sexual in him. “Is it okay if I work a little bit before we sleep? Panigurado kasi hindi ko na magagawa ito bukas. For sure magiging busy tayo at pagod.”

Another lump formed in her throat. What she thought was an innuendo made her more nervous as she already is. “Ha? Bakit naman? Ano bang gagawin natin bukas?”

“Sight-seeing Ma. Hindi naman tayo nakapasyal the last time that we were here eh.”

“Ah… oo nga pala.”

“Manood ka muna ng TV if you like while I finish here,” he said as she handed her the remote.

She silently let out a sigh of relief and got the remote from him. She leaned back on the headboard and started flipping through the channels. She stopped at a local cable channel, which shows Filipino movies. “Ayiii! I like this movie,” she excitedly said.

He looked at the TV and asked, “Ano ba ‘yan?”

“It’s a love story. Nakakakilig. ‘Yung guy ay anak ng presidente ng Pilipinas tapos ‘yung girl naman ay ordinary citizen na nagtatrabaho sa isang NGO. When they met they started off at the wrong foot so palagi silang nag-aaway hanggang sa they fell in love with each other.”
