As I stood here trying to pull these victims from the car all I could think about was Gabby. Gabby and the baby. My baby. I am going to be a father. "Lieutenant are you with us?" Herrmann asked. "Yeah, sorry," I said pulling my attention back to the car. "The drivers pined in pretty bad. I need a backboard and a c collar. I want extinguishers as backup. Otis over here with a glass cutter, and a hammer." I ordered. Shay and Brett came over with the gurney and I broke the glass. "No luck getting the door open from the inside." I placed my halligan just inside the door frame and looked at Otis. "Ready?" He nodded. "Strike. Strike. Strike." After the third hit the door came lose and I'll pulled it open. Shay passed me the c collar and I placed it around the woman's neck before sliding her out onto the backboard. "Load her up," Shay called as Brett got in to drive. I helped Shay put the gurney in the ambo. I stood by the doors ready to close them. "Did you know she was pregnant?" I asked looking up to Shay. She turned her head and looked straight at me, "she tell you?" "Yeah." "Don't go hard on her okay?" I nodded and shut the doors to the ambo, tapping the back as Brett drove off. I sighed and walked back to the truck. If Shay knew then did Kelly? I doubt it, he wouldn't lie to me. I tried to count back to the last time we slept together, and it was months ago. How long had Gabby known and not told me?
"Alright 81, let's go," I said getting in the truck. "Are you going back to the house lieutenant?" Cruz asked me. "No, back to where we were before." No one dared argue with me, they knew something had gone down earlier. We pulled back up at the apartment and I got out, "there's food in the truck somewhere if you get hungry." I walked to the door and knocked, there was no answer. I turned the knob and it was open so I quietly walked in. I could hear Gabby up in the bathroom being sick. I filled up a glass of water for her and slowly walked up the stairs. I reached the bathroom and saw gabby kneeling down, her head resting on her arms that rested on the lid of the toilet, with her eyes closed. "Are you okay?" I asked bending down next to her and placing a hand on her back. She jumped slightly, not knowing I was there, and then opened her eyes. "Here," I said handing her the glass of water. "Thanks," she mumbled slightly taking it and taking a few sips. "We should talk," I said. "Let's get you to bed." She nodded and I helped her stand. She stumbled slightly but I caught her and lead her down the hall to the guest room she was sleeping in. I helped her lay down in the bed and then pulled the blanket over her. There were tissues stained with mascara scattered around the room, a long with clothes and some of her cfd uniform. I looked over at the bedside table and picked up the ultrasound photo that was sitting there. "That was last week," Gabby whispered looking up. "How many weeks are you?" "11." I sat down on the bed beside her and took her hand as she lay next to me. "Why didn't you tell me?" "I didn't know how. I wanted to, but then you said you wanted to keep everything how it was, with us not together. And I didn't want to tell you and then you be with me just because of this. I want us to be together because we want to, not because we feel like we have too." "How long have you known?" I asked brushing away her tears. "Since the night you were taken, that's why I was at your house." "I wish you would have told me Gabs. I would have been here to help you, here to support you." "I want you to be with me because you love me Matt, not because we are having a baby together." "Gabby I do want to be with you. I wanted a break until everything with Voight had been sorted and it has, but then I didn't want to bring it up with you because you have been so distant. I've barely seen you." "I haven't been well," she whispered. "I know, I know you haven't. I just wish you had of told me sooner." She nodded and once again I brushed the tears from under her eyes. "Have you been to the doctor? What's all these dizzy spells and nausea?" "Yeah I have, it's just high blood pressure. She's given me medication, and I've had Shay here looking out for me." I smiled and gently caressed her cheek. "Can we start again?" I asked. "With?" "Everything. I've lost you too many times Gabriella Dawson, I don't want to loose you again. I want to be with you because I love you, the baby just adds on to that." She nodded and smiled slightly. "Okay, but let's just take this slow. I'll stay here for a while, and we can see each other outside of work. But I'm not ready to move back in yet." I nodded. "What are you going to do? You can't be candidate Gabby." "I know, I know. I'll figure something out. I'm not exactly in a working state right now anyway." I nodded in understanding. "Can I come by later? After shift?" She nodded and I brushed the hair off her face. "I'll see you then, get some rest." She nodded and smiled, "Matt, the picture's for you," she said pointing toward the sonogram. "Thanks," I smiled picking it up. "I'll see you later, call me if you need." "I will, be safe." "Bye."

I closed the door to her bedroom and slowly went back down the stairs and out to the truck. I was going to be a father, and I get to start over with Gabby. Things couldn't get any better than this. I got into the truck, I looked at the sonogram in my pocket again. I am going to be a father.
