Gabby

I flicked through another realestate booklet and circled a house I liked. It was close to work, and was in our price range. So far I'd found five houses I liked, Matt had only agreed on three. He wanted a man cave for all his things, but I wasn't going to specifically look for houses that had one. "Gabs you ready to go?" Matt asked walking down the stairs. I looked up at him and smiled, "yeah let's go." I was taking another shift off, mainly because I'm still so tired with everything going on, but the dizzy spells and nausea have mostly stopped. We were going in to tell chief after everything that has been going on, and so that I can take that position on ambo. I got up from the couch and walked towards the door as Matt grabbed his car keys. "You realise that once everyone else finds out you are moving back to ambo, we are going to have to tell them what's really going on," Matt said to me. "Yeah I know, but they are our family. I want them to know," I smiled. He nodded and took my hand as he started driving towards the house. "So I booked us some more inspections at a couple different houses tomorrow," I said. "Where abouts?" "Ones 10 minutes from work in the other direction, and ones about 5 minutes away from here." "Sounds good," he smiled. "And I have an appointment tomorrow. I was hopping you would come." "What time?" "9. I know you're on shift but if you bring the radio and the other guys in the truck it should be okay right?" "Yeah it'll be fine." I smiled as we pulled up at the house. I got out and took Matts hand as we walked up to the entry. No one was on the floor this morning which was kind of strange so we made our way into the common room where Mills was serving breakfast. "Dawson!" Herrmann smiled walking over. He stopped short, "you're not contagious are you?" I laughed and looked at Casey, "no definitely not." He smiled and walked over embracing me in a hug. "Good to see you." "You too Herrmann, how's things round here?" "Same old, same old. Been weird without you sitting in the truck with us." "Well I'll be back next shift." Casey put his hand on my shoulder, "we should talk to Boden," he whispered in my ear. I nodded and as everyone sat down to eat Casey and I walked down to Chiefs office. "Dawson good to see you," he smiled as we walked in. "You too chief, sorry for all the calling in sick." "That doesn't matter Gabby, all that matters is that you are better and that you will be back soon." "Hopefully next shift," I smiled. "While I love seeing the two of you, there must be some reason you decided to stop by," he said raising his eyebrow. Matt and I sat down in the chairs, and he reached over and took my hand. "So we know Shay has already spread word around the firehouse that Gabby and I are back together," Matt smiled. "I have indeed heard that, congrats." I smiled. "Anyway in relation to the paramedic position I was talking to you about last shift chief- well Gabby wants it." He turned and looked at me directly in the eye. "Dawson I thought you were enjoying being a candidate, if this has something to do with the men tell me and I'll pull them into line," he said. I smiled, "no chief, it's nothing like that I promise." "Then what is it?" I looked at Matt and smiled, before turning back to chief. "We are having a baby." A smiled grew on Bodens face and he lent over and shook my hand. "Congratulations you two. This is amazing news. The spot's yours Dawson. Chicago is damn lucky to have you back on that ambo." I smiled. "Thank you chief, I really appreciate it. And I appreciate everything you and Casey did to get me on to 81 in the first place." He smiled, "anything for you. Now I'm going to need to start getting your maternity leave sorted, so next appointment can you get your doctor to write me a letter explaining everything that is going on." "Sure will chief. Thank you." I said standing up. He lent over and hugged me and I smiled before pulling back. "Now we've just got to tell all the others," Matt smiled. I took his hand and after thanking chief again we left his office and walked back into the common room. Mouch was watching TV with Otis, while Shay, Herrmann, and Severide were sitting at the table.
Bodens voice came over the speaker, 'everyone to the common room now.' I looked up at Casey. This was it, we were going to tell everyone. I sat up on the bench and Casey stood beside me as everyone filled in. "What's this all about?" Herrmann asked. "Gabby and I have something we need to tell you guys " Matt smiled taking my hand. "If this is about you guys getting back together, Shay already told us," Otis said. "No. It's not. I'm moving back to ambo." The room was silent and everyone looked at me. "Dawson why?" Herrmann asked. Matt smiled at me and I nodded at him. "We are having a baby," he smiled. "CONGRATULATIONS!!" Herrmann said walking up and giving us both a hug. Everyone started clapping and I smiled as everyone hugged us. I'm glad they are as happy as we are. "Is this the explanation behind all the sickness?" Kelly asked hugging me gently. "Sure is," I smiled. "Congratulations. I'm really happy for the two of you." "Thanks Kelly."

Merry Christmas xx
