"Gabby no heavy lifting," I said looking at her. "I don't think you can count pushing the bookcase into the corner as heavy lifting Matt," she said walking over and putting her hands on my shoulders. "Just take it easy please." I turned back and continued screwing the panels into the frame for the crib. "I want to help," she whined. I stood up and turned around to face her. "Why don't you start doing the pram? I'll open the box for you and you can start putting that together?" She nodded and I walked over and cut the corners of the box so it opened. "There, go for your life," I smiled kissing her head.
You could tell she was starting to get restless. She'd been off work for a month and she was bored out of her mind. I keep trying to remind her that the purpose of her being off work is so she rests but she won't stop. And she's always wanting to help my build the furniture for the baby, but I've already done most of it. I need to get her out of the house. "Hey, did you want to spend a couple days with your parents before the baby is born?" I asked turning around to look at her. "What, and fly over to Denver?" "Why not? In a couple weeks you won't be able to fly anymore. Now's your last chance." "Antonio is going with the kids a couple days after Christmas." "You'd be pushing it but Im sure the doctor would let you fly." "I'll be 35 weeks, the cut off is 36." "Well go after Christmas then. I'll try and pick up a couple extra shifts while you're away." "Sounds good." She smiled. I smiled and turned back to the railing on the crib. "I think it's done," I said turning it over so it was standing up. "It looks wonderful," Gabby smiled wrapping her arms around me. He nursery was nearly done. All I had left to do was make Gabby her rocking chair. And buy clothes and toys, but Gabby wanted to do most of that. "Do you want to finish the pram? Or do you want me to do it?" "No I want to do it," she smiled. "Alright I'll go make you some tea."The weather was terrible, and it was only getting worse with snow starting to fall. I started to boil the kettle when there was a knock on the door. "Uncle Matt!" I walked over and opened the door. Violet was standing there with no coat on and snow in her hair. "Violet what are you doing here? Where's mum?" "She's at home. They started arguing and he was going to take me and so I slipped out the window. I didn't know where else to go." "Who? Who was going to get you?" "My dad." "I thought your mum had full custody." "She does." I looked up the stairs. "Gabby I'm going to see Chrisitie. It's an emergency. Can you get some blankets for Violet? She's freezing." Gabby appeared at the top of the stairs as I grabbed my keys. "Matt what's going on?" "I'll talk to you later."
