I jumped out of the truck with my turn out gear on and looked at the building in front of me. Flames were licking up the sides of the walls and out the windows. It was fires like these that made me glad Gabby was on ambo and not on truck. I looked over at Chief. "Otis and Mouch vent the roof. Cruz on the aerial. Hermann and Casey you're coming in with me to the second floor with Capp. The rest of squad you're taking the bottom floor," chief called. "Alright Squad spread out." "Same with us. Capp and Herrmann take the west side, Boden and I will take the east," I called. We masked up and started the search in the building.

Cruz

I was the only one with eyes on the whole building. Mouch and Otis were on the roof and everyone else was inside, engine 51 hasn't arrived yet. "Chief the smokes starting to turn black," I radioed over. "Alright everyone you have two minutes," he replied. "Chief bottom floor is clear, squad are heading out." "Copy that Severide." I sighed and kept my eyes on the building as Otis and Mouch made their way down the ladder from the roof. "Chief you don't have two minutes," I said. "It's about to flash. You've got to get out now." "Copy that Cruz. Everyone out now."
Just as Casey, Herrmann, Boden and Capp walked out the door the building flashed and knocked them off their feet. I lowered the aerial and got down before walking over to make sure they were okay. Chief walked over and patted me on my back, "that was a good call Cruz, you saved all four of our lives." "Thank you chief," I smiled.

Once we got back to the house we all sat down in front of the TV to watch the Chicago Bulls play. They had the lead going in to the second half but things were tight. "Anyone want a snack?" I asked getting up. I walked over to the bench and grabbed out a couple of bowls before filling them with chips. I placed them back on the table and then poured myself a coffee. Just as I turned around I saw Gabby run in. She saw me and smiled and ran towards me. "We got the house! Baby we got the house!" She smiled laughing. I put my coffee down and picked her up so her legs were wrapped around my waist. "We got the house!" I lent up and kissed her deeply. "Congratulations you two," Herrmann smiled making me pull away. "I can't believe we got the house!" Gabby laughed. "We are going to have to buy new furniture! Buy all the stuff for the baby! Paint the walls!" "Slow down," I laughed kissing her cheek, "when's the settlement?" "45 days! We move in October 1st!" "That's amazing baby," I smiled kissing her again. "I'm so excited. We have to go shopping tomorrow okay?" "Promise," I nodded.
