"Her blood pressure is through the roof," I said to Matt as I checked her vitals. Heartbeat was strong, but that was about it. Her O2 levels only remained steady because of the oxygen mask she was breathing from. I heard Gabby groan slightly and her hand moved. "Gabby are you with me?" I asked tapping her repeatedly in the middle of the forehead. It's a technique I was taught to try and get someone's attention. She opened her eyes and I shon the light into them again. "Good job Gabby. Stay with me," I said leaning back. "She reacted better that time," I said looking up at Matt. "Gabs can you hear me?" Matt asked squeezing her hand. She nodded slightly and tried to remove the oxygen mask off her face. "No sweetie," I said stopping her, "you need to keep it on okay?" She turned her head slightly so she was looking directly at me. "The baby," she croaked, "how's the baby?" I gently lifted her top and pressed my stethoscope to her stomach listening for anything at all. I moved it around a couple of times but I couldn't find anything. "Shay?" Gabby croaked, "you can't find anything can you?" Damn it baby give me something! I kept moving the stethoscope around but I couldn't find anything. I sat back and gently pulled down Gabbys top. She reached for my hand and I took it. "You can't find anything can you?" I slowly shook my head and squeezed her hand, "that doesn't mean that there isn't anything Gabby. You of all people know that the stethoscope will only pick up a babys heart beat if the baby is in the right position." I gently wiped a tear from Gabbys eye as we pulled up at the hospital. Mills opened the door and I jumped out before pulling the gurney out. We rushed in. "29 year old female, 24 weeks pregnant. Fell from a step ladder 1.5m from the ground. Was originally dazed and unresponsive, but has improved to a taking state. Been on O2 for the past 10 minutes. No heartbeat from the baby was found."

Once we got to the hospital the doctors took over and I followed them down the hall with the gurney. They took Gabby into a room and lifted her onto the bed. "What's her name?" The doctor asked looking at me. "Gabby." "Gabby can you hear me?" The doctor asked leaning over her. "Yeah." "Where have you got pain Gabby?" "In my side and back." He shon the light into her eyes and waited for a response. "Alright Gabby we are going to get you off the backboard and lay you on your side so we can check for a spinal injury okay?" "Where's Matt?" She asked. "I'm here baby." I said walking over and taking her hand. I sat in the chair next to the bed and the doctors slid her off the backboard and then took off the c collar. They slowly turned her body so she was on her side facing me. "What happened baby?" I asked wiping her tears. "I just got so dizzy. I'm sorry Matt." "It's not your fault." "I shouldn't have been on that step ladder." "I should have had the banner straight in the first place. It's no ones fault." She nodded as the doctor pressed down her spine. She cringed when he reached her lower back. "There," I said. The doctor nodded and marked it out with a pencil. They rolled Gabby back over onto her back. "The good news is it's just muscular. It'll cause you some pain but it should go away in the next few weeks with some chiropractic work." "What about the baby?" Gabby asked. "We will do an ultrasound now." I helped gabby lift her top up and the doctor placed the gel onto her stomach. Please, please. Please. We need a heartbeat. I held Gabbys hand as she squeezed it tightly. "You can see the baby's heart beating just there," the doctor said pointing to the screen. I smiled and kissed Gabbys head. "Everything is looking good, the baby doesn't have seemed to be affected. I understand you're supposed to be going on maternity leave next week?" Gabby nodded. "I'm pulling that back to today, no more work. You're on bed rest for the next week and a half." I nodded. Gabby wouldn't be happy about that, but she'll be fine. Thank god her and the baby are okay. "I'm just going to call Shay. Give her the good news." Gabby nodded at me and I stood up and walked outside.
