Casey
I'd spent the last few days with Gabby, it was fair to say everything was getting back on track. I was set to head back to Shay and Kelly's after shift to stay the night again. I looked at the clock again, it was 8 o'clock, two more hours and then I could go back to Gabby. She had called in sick again, she can barely stand up for more than 10 minutes without having a dizzy spell. They're starting to clear up though, hopefully she should be back at work by next week. I haven't told chief yet that she won't be able to be candidate. I don't know what she's going to do. She might have to take a desk job or find a job on ambo in another house. With Brett and Shay here there was no room on ambo.
Truck 81, Squad 3, Ambulance 61, Ambulance 32. Car accident. Clifford and Laylor
We all stood from the common room and walked out to the trucks. Calling squad and two ambos to a car accident generally meant it was a bad one. We put on our turn out gear and got into the truck before driving to the scene. A truck had head on collided with a family mini van. "Alright all hands on the mini van, except me, Capp, and Mills. We will take the truck," Serveride called. "You heard him 81. Mouch and Cruz you stand back up with fire extinguishers. Brett and Shay I need a backboard and collar for both driver and passenger. Tony I need you to do the jaws to get these doors open. Otis, Herrmann on the passenger, I'll work the driver with the rest of squad," I called. Everyone got into their positions. Tony opened the drivers door first and I placed a collar on the driver. He had a pulse but it was weak. His legs were crushed by impact and his legs were like jelly and pouring blood as we slid him out onto the backboard. Shay and Brett loaded up and took off. Once Tony had opened the other door they pulled the passenger out and loaded her onto a backboard. Over by the truck Mills tied and handcuff knot and tied up the truck driver. "This is 81, requesting police down to the car accident on Clifford. Alcohol seems to have been a factor to the accident." "Copy that 81," the woman replied to me. We started to pack up the equipment and waited for the police to arrive before we left. We got in the truck and drove back off to the house where chief was waiting."Everyone into the meeting room please," he said as we unloaded and took off our gear. "You got any idea what this is about?" I asked walking over to Severide. He shook his head. We all filled in to the meeting room and sat down. Brett walked up to the front and stood by chief. "Now Brett here has some news she wants to share with you all." She smiled and cleared her throat, "Well I'm not really sure how to say this, but basically in my off time when I'm not on shift I work as a hotel manager which many of you knew. I've been given a promotion and so I did some research and managed to get a transfer to a house in San Fransisco..so starting next shift I won't be working here anymore." The room was silent before everyone started clapping. "Congrats Brett, we'll miss you," Mills said with a smile. Chief walked back up, "we all wish Brett well in the future, stay in contact with us and update us about how you're going. As of now Brett is no longer PIC on ambo and I will be contacting head quarters later tonight to organise a new one." Everyone nodded and stood up hugging Brett. I walked over to chief. "Chief I think I know someone who would take the job." "Who?" He asked. "I'll have to talk to them. Can you hold the spot? Just get a fill in for next shift?" "I'll need an answer by next shift Casey." "Thanks chief."
Maybe this was the opportunity Gabby needed.
