Casey

"81 in the truck. We are going for a ride." "Casey lunch is nearly ready," Mills called. "We'll be back soon." I grabbed my turn out gear and shoved it in the front with me along with Gabbys lunch. Everyone else got in and I gave the address to Cruz. "Heads up guys," I said turning around to face them, "Gabbys on bed rest for the next 2 weeks so I have to take her breakfast, lunch and dinner." "How far away is your place from the house?" "10 or so minutes. Not far." "Whatever you need to do Lieutenant, we get it," Herrmann said. I turned back around. If anyone was going to understand it it was Herrmann. The others probably don't think it's a big deal if Gabby has to get out of bed to get herself food, but Herrmann knows what it's like when something has gone wrong. I wouldn't be at work if I didn't have to be. We pulled up out the front of the house and I undid my belt. "Nice house Casey," Otis said as we pulled up. "Thanks." I jumped out of the truck and grabbed my keys from my pocket. I unlocked the door and started to walk up the stairs. The door to the bedroom was closed, which probably meant Gabby was asleep. I quietly opened the door to see her asleep up against the pillows. I walked over to the bed and sat down. "Gabby, hey baby." She stirred and opened her eyes before slowly sitting up. "Sorry baby, but you need to eat this before it goes cold." She nodded and rubbed her eyes. I placed a pillow against the bed head so she can lean back against it. "How's your back feeling?" "It's alright." "Make sure you call me if you need anything okay?" "I'm fine Matt. We both are," she said resting her hand on her stomach. "I love you. I'll see you tonight okay?" "Matt I can make myself dinner." "Doctors orders Gabs. Don't move from this bed. I'll see you later." I smiled and kissed her gently. "You be safe." "Promise." I closed the door and walked back down the stairs and out of the house. "Thanks guys," I said getting back in. "How is she?" Herrmann asked. "Sore. But other than that she's okay." They nodded and we drove back to the house. I wish I didnt have to work, knowing that gabby was stuck in bed and in pain all day.

Once we arrived back at the firehouse and got out of the trucks we went in for lunch. "How's Dawson?" Shay asked sitting opposite me. "She's doing okay. Sore, but okay. She wants to come by the house but I told her not until she's off bed rest." "That'd be killing her." "She could do with some company if you wanted to come around one day we aren't on shift." "Yeah, sure." She nodded.

I got up and placed our bowls on the bench before walking down to my office to finish paperwork.
