'Hey this is Chrisite, leave a message.' I sighed as the tone sounded in my ear, and I looked at Gabby sitting at my desk. "Hey Chrisite, ah, it's Matt. I was hopping we could talk sometimesoon. I've got some news for you and Violet. Give me a call back, maybe we could catch up for dinner sometime this week. Bye." I ended the call and but the phone down on my bunk. "You realise I will probably never hear back," I said looking up at Gabby. "You never know, at least now you've made an effort. The ball's in her court. If she doesn't call back and misses out then she's only got herself to blame." I nodded as Gabby sat down beside me and rested her head on my shoulder. "I love you, you know that don't you." "Of course," she smiled looking up at me. "I love you too."
Truck 81, Squad 3, Ambulance 61. Possible Drowning, Navy Pier.
Gabby got up off my lap and we both stood up. "Let's go."

"If it's a possible drowning expect to be going in as a diver. Capp you are coming down to the bottom with me. Mills and Tony you both rope. One of you on me, the other on Capp. Got it?" They all nodded as we pulled up at the scene. As soon as we got out, Capp and I grabbed the divers suits from the back, took off our turn out gear and pulled the water proof material over us. "Alright Severide, we've got a seven year old kid in the river. Went down about 5 minutes ago," Casey said coming over the radio. I looked up to see him standing with Boden and the father. "Where are the ropes?" I yelled as Capp and I walked over to the waters edge. Mills and Tony came running and connected each of us. "2 tugs, we need more rope. 3, we've got the kid." "Copy that Lieutenant." I look at Capp before we plunged into the water.

Lake dives are the worst possible dives you can get. I mean, there's a reason why no one swims in a lake. The water is murky and the bottom is covered in mud and sludge. The amount of toxins in this water would be crazy. Diving in murky water is similar to a fire. You can't see much more in front of you that your own arm, and you have to just try your luck in reaching out to grab a foot or a hand. On this occasion luck was on my side. As I reached in through the weed I managed to grab a kids arm and I pulled him towards me. I forcefully tugged the rope three times until I felt myself being lifted up through the water. I reached the surface and Casey grabbed the boy from my arms before laying him on the grass. "I haven't got a pulse Shay," I heard Dawson yell. As I climbed out of the water as Capp resurfaced Dawson had already begun CPR. "Casey get towels from the ambo. We aren't shocking him with this much water."

It's hard to accept the fact that not everyone will make it. No matter how hard you try, just because you manage to find that hand or foot and grab it, doesn't mean that you've made a save. Sometimes it's just to late. "Shocking at 200." Dawson said. "Clear." I looked over at the young boy and his distraught father as the shock wave rippled through his body trying to get his heart back into some sort of rhythm. "Shocking at 260. Clear." It's moments like these where it's completely silent other than the voices of Dawson and Shay as they do the best they can. "We've got a pulse. Let's go now." They loaded the boy into the backboard and on to the gurney. Boden walked over and placed his hand on my back, "Good save Kelly. Really good save." I nodded a thank you and stripped off the divers gear before climbing back into the truck.

It was moments like those that made me proud of Gabby. She never gives up on a patient, will try everything to bring them back. She is going to be an amazing mother to our baby. My phone rang from my pocket and I pulled it out. Chrisite. She's actually called me back. I hit answer and put my phone up to my ear. "Christie hi." "Hey Matt. I got your message. I think it'd be a great idea to go out for dinner. Violet hasn't seen you in ages." "That'd be great," I smiled, "if you want to pick a place and then just text me Gabby and I will be there." "Gabby, as in Gabby Dawson?" She asked. "Yeah." "How does tomorrow night sound?" "Perfect. I'll see you then. Bye." "Bye Matt."
