-Jeramiah Bate's P.O.V-

After we were done eating I was about to take off and lead our way to the nurse's office. Avery still looked quite ill. The food made her feel better, but her forehead was still burning, her eyes got all watery and puffy. They were quite bright red and pupils got bigger.

I was worried sick. On one hand I wanted to show how concerned I am and make her feel cared after, that would most definitely win me some points against other guys, but on the other hand, I had to be quite cold, and keep my image. However if I wanted to play as a nice guy I had to go all the way.

"Let me carry that for you"

I took her purse in to my hand. I heard a silent chuckle from somewhere in the bar and my eyes met Caiden. He was sitting by the table near the bar with some girl. I quickly took Avery by her hand and dragged her to the side.

I regretted my move immediately, Avery grabbed her head and glanced at me confused. Her eyes were so painfully bright even I thought that I will get a headache. She coughed few times, but I didn't know how to deal with it.

Besides I was on the mission here. Out of the sudden I became a spy, against my will, but with pleasure I was checking on what Caiden was doing. Good thing the smart idea popped in to my head and I took my phone for the pictures to black mail him later.

When out of nowhere a flash went off lighting up the whole room I thought I will die out of embarrassment. Caiden quickly glared at the direction the light came from and our eyes met almost at instant.

I was frozen. So was Avery. She scanned me and followed my stare. Even with a pain killing her she still managed to stay polite and don't question my actions. As her eyes saw what I was already witnessing for few minutes her jaw dropped.

"Can we go?"

She asked, but before I was able to answer she dragged me out of the bar like some wonder woman. Seriously, she had so much power in that tiny body it surprised me. As soon as we walked out and day light coming from under the clouds covering up the sun, I thought that she will collapse.

Her face was all pail and her lips lost their color.

"Avery, you don't look to good."

I almost slapped myself for those words. What was I thinking? Tell a girl she doesn't look good See how will that turn out to be.

"Do you know who she is?"

She asked me ignoring the worries I had. I thought about it. I was almost certain she meant the girl back in the bar with Caiden. If I wasn't mistaking, and I probably wasn't, because all of the other guys wouldn't shut up talking about how they had a conversation with Avery and how they thrown a wink at her, in conclusion, Caiden was one of the guys who already had approached the target, which in this case was Avery.

She probably knew him. But is it really possible that she got so attached to him in a week that the girl with him could have affected her like that? I couldn't believe that Caiden would have succeeded in the week. I don't think it was enough time for him to accomplish a goal. No one falls in love so easily. Do they?

"The girl? I have no idea."

What got in to me? I could have lied. Easy. I could have made up a story right on the spot. Hey, I wasn't half bad in literature, I could have wrote a novel right here right now, about hoe that girl is Caiden's girlfriend or some crap, I could have eliminated my competition. But no, instead, I didn't do a thing.

"Avery!"

It was Caiden, he came out of the bar and looked around searching for her. Their eyes met and the spark showed up.

"Are you ready to go? Because I totally am."

Without realizing what is going on I was dragged away from all the drama that was about to take place in front of Bullet's bar. Avery was holding on to my hand taking me towards the college.

"Avery, you're sick, you shouldn't be rushing around like that."

I reminded her, but as she turned around and her puffy dark eyes pierced me. I couldn't help but notice how she slowly gained back color of her cheeks as they were bright pink again. However it didn't seem like they were going to stop there, she was turning all violet.

"I'm sorry, you probably have something to do... and, oh my god, I am so sorry, we just met and... I have to go."

I had no idea what just happened but suddenly she let go of my hand and took off running. I rotated my wrist and looked at it for about half a second before realizing that I should be chasing after her, even if she didn't wish for that.

So I took off too. We were both running like crazy, few meters apart, but still not together. I shouted her name, but I was already losing my breathe, I could only imagine what she was going though, after all she was suffering from that fever at the time as well. But maybe adrenaline gave her energy, because I wasn't able to catch up with her for another minute.

I finally was right behind her, I reached my hands forward and wrapped them around her waist suddenly pulling her back in to my embrace. She gasped as her back hit against my chest. I chuckled and picked her up from the ground bridal style. I couldn't just not notice that her chest was going up and done insanely fast, it must have hurt, she was burning up big time.

"Where are you going princess? Is it midnight already?"

Since when did I became that dude quoting romantic novels and finding fairytales' references in every day's life? I was surprised by myself.

"Jeramiah, what are you doing?"

She said, even if Avery spoke softly I could hear how hard it was for her to let those words fly out of her mouth.

"I'm taking care of you."

"But why?"

I want to win a bet, my first thought was. Good thing I didn't follow my instincts and ignored the urge to spill that out.

"I was looking for my princess, maybe I just found her."

I wondered how it didn't start raining glitter after all that sweet talk. I couldn't recognize myself, but she chuckled. Goal accomplished.
