"Your grace, we must hurry.."
It was already dawn when her personal maid, Lily went to her chamber to wake her up. Only for her to be surprised when she found her already awake on her bed.
No one dared to turn on the lights. They were talking in hushed tones, afraid to rouse any suspicions from her enemies.
That was what they felt... afraid.
Even her own home cannot offer the same comfort and safety it was once offered.
And she's sick of it.
For two months, she is sick of feeling scared for her own safety.. for her son's safety.
"Momma?"
She looked at her son, Alleck.. He woke from his sleep. He looked so innocent for a five year old kid. So innocent in all of this and yet, he'd been dragged to all of it.
Just thinking about the danger that might befall him already constricts her heart.
"Yes, darling?" She hugged her son as if any moment, someone from the dark might snatched him away from her.
"Why is Lily changing my clothes? Are we going somewhere?"
Since their safety was treathened, she never allowed him to sleep in his own room anymore. He'd been sleeping with her since then.
It pains her to see how her son is being restricted ever since that maid died in her room.
He was not allowed to play outside without his guards.. He also started home schooling. He had never seen his friends at school ever since.
She on the other hand, had been told to adjust. Her light blond hair was dyed into hazel brown.. Her light blue eyes were replaced by a pair of brown contact lenses.
All of these are making her realize that being her old self is not safe anymore.
Many people admires her hair... her eyes... they are very vocal in telling her so.
Those times she felt... priveledged... lucky... proud. Knowing that these people wanted to have something she alone possessess. But now she's thinking those people are luckier than her. They are more fortunate for they could go out of their homes without feeling uneasy. They are lucky enough to do things freely without restrictions... without feeling unsafe...
She swallowed the lump in her troath. This is not the time to cry Alexandreena. This is the time for you to be strong. For yourself.. for your son...
"Listen to me Alleck. We will... we will go somewhere."
"A vacation?"
"Y-yes. A... a vacation. Just the two of us. You have been wishing for that, have you not?"
"Yes, I have always wanted that..."
"Good. Now this is how we do it. We must go out without anyone seeing us. Lily will carry you and you must never make any sound that could make them notice us. You understand, darling?"
"I can do that momma. That would be like playing hide and seek!"
"Yes... it would be like playing a game. Now we do not want to lose, do we?"
"No..."
"Good. Remember to keep quiet. I will just change my clothes."
Lily assisted me in puting my clothes on. I looked at it and frowned.
"Am I about to pretend to be a beggar?"
Lily giggled. "No, your grace. I was given the instruction to give you clothes that will help you lower your profile."
