Chapter Ten: The Save

Lucas POV
I left the janitors closet and walked to the cafeteria.
When I walked in I noticed Maya sitting with Riley. She glanced over at me and smiled.
I realized I looked glum and grinned back.
"Lucas!"
My eyes found the location from where my name was being called.
It was Missy.
She waved her hand and I walked over.
This should be good.
She sat up and pushed me down by my bicep.
"Hey Lucas.. wow, still got it," She squished my arm.
"Hi, Missy."
"Well, as you know, I am a senior and my prom is coming up and I was wondering if you'd like to be my date."
She was hanging herself over me and she attached herself to me like a leech.
"Isn't prom like 4 months away?"
"Duh, but I want to make sure you are my date because I have so many offers from other boys and I want to make sure I can turn them down. So what do you say? Remember Lucas," She got close to my ear and whispered, "I'm older, more experienced and maybe after prom I can return the favor."
"LUCAS LUCAS!" Zay ran up to me out of breath.
"What? What happened?"
"Something happened with Pappy Joe in Texas."
"Oh my god," I chocked up.
I got up from the table and followed Zay out of the cafe.
Half way down the hallway he stopped.
"What are you doing? I have to go home."
"Lucas, nothing happened with your grandpa, he's fine, I just wanted to get you away from Missy. She's still after you-"
"Zay! You asshole! I almost had a heart attack out there!" I pushed him.
"Hey! I got you out!" He put his hands up.
I got a text message.
Maya: Is everything ok? Are you ok? Is Pappy Joe ok?
I smiled.
I texted back, 'Everything is fine, just Zay pranking me.'
"Who you texting?"
"No one."
"Eh, don't lie. I know why you were late to lunch." He smiled widely and gave me a shove.
"Whatever Zay," We walked to my locker.
"Lucas, you are blushing. Holy Cow. Are you sure you aren't feeling anything towards Maya?"
"Yeah, it's no strings attached. Plus, if I did. It would just make it complicated."
"Well, if you are, don't pretend like you don't. You are just hurting yourself. And you should tell Maya."
I closed my locker.
"Let's just go to class."
