Lucas POV
"Look I still don't understand why you have to kiss Sarah tomorrow. I mean it's only a school mock play, it's not like Shakespeare is going to roll over in his grave if it doesn't happen." Maya ranged in the other side of the phone.
"It's not like I want to." I interjected.
"I told you already," I heard her get up from her bed and take a large sigh, "Just tell Mrs.Dickinson that you have a throat ache and you don't want to get her sick. Simple."
"Maya, I'm not lying just because your jealous."
She laughed loudly on her side.
"Jealous? Jealous? Jealous of SARAH? Yeah, ok.. sure Huckleberry. I am not, AT ALL, jealous of Sarah." She paused.
"Maya-"
"You know what, fine. Fine. Kiss Sarah. OBVIOUSLY you WANT to."
"Maya, you know that that is not at all true."
"I know," I heard her frown, "But I know she wants to kiss you and well, I don't want her to."
"I won't enjoy it." I reassured her.
"How do you know? I mean you figured you had feelings for me from us kissing."
"Maya, I liked you before we kissed. I liked you this whole time. I just didn't know that I had feelings for you."
"GOD Ranger Rick we can't have a conversation without you getting all sentimental and cheesy."
"I know you like it." I teased.
"Goodnight Lucas."
"Goodnight Maya."
She hung up.

Next day I walked into Mrs. Dickinson's classroom and took my seat.
Maya walked in behind Sarah.
Sarah sat in Mayas desk in front of me and took out chapstick and a applied a few ton of layers.
Maya looked at her annoyingly.
"So Lucas, are you ready to read our lines today? I'm actually very excited."
She put her elbows on my desk.
"I'm very flattered but maybe you should get to your seat before the bell rings."
She got up and Maya rolled her eyes when sitting back down.
I fought the urge to put my hands on her shoulders to calm her down.
Nonetheless.....
"Welcome to R&J Day!" Mrs. Dickinson sung walking into class,"We are getting started right away and we will meet at lunch and do scene two with my other blocks. I have chosen one of each role from all of my classes. Those, however, will be announced at lunch in the auditorium."
She rolled the costume cart to the front of the class and everyone's other moved desks or put on costumes.
Scene two was when the kiss took place so Maya didn't seem so glum.
I put on my Romeo coat and stood at the front of the room.
"And Action!" Mrs.Dickinson yelled from her 'directors' chair in the back.
We 'acted' out the entire scene one all period.
We had a couple of minutes to spare after class.
Which Mrs.Dickinson claimed was 'clean up' time.
I waited patiently until lunch, hoping that I wouldn't get Romeo and I wouldn't have to kiss anyone.
I walked into the auditorium and sat in between Maya and Zay.
We waited for Mrs. Dickinson to walk back into the auditorium.
"Ok," She held a mug with fresh coffee, "The stage is set! Now, my Juliet. Grace, you will be Juliet."
Maya's face fell.
Grace was, what some would characterize as, pretty. She was one of Zay's many cheer team crushes.
I moved my hand over to Maya and found her hand making sure it was discrete.
"Romeo, oh Romeo," Mrs. Dickinson animated her announcement, "Georgio!"
"Oh thank god." I said a bit too loud.
I remembered that Georgio was an option. He was born to play this role.
Maya smiled at me and we watched scene two in peace.
