Maya POV
When I opened the door to my apartment with my key and stepped in, I couldn't stop laughing.
I don't know if it was laughing from embarrassment, or awkwardness, or fear, or joy, or maybe even lust.
But I knew one thing.
I gave Lucas Friar a boner.
It was probably the first time a girl had ever kissed his neck.
In New York at least. I don't know what sixth grade Texas Lucas was into.
And I couldn't stop laughing.
After a good 10 minutes, I stopped laughing because I couldn't breathe and my stomach hurt like hell afterwards.
I mean, I have made out with other guys and it never got really far.
Yeah I was still a virgin but, I never thought Lucas was a prude.
I know him and Riley probably never gotten further than a couple of pecks and maybe cuddling.
But damn.
I opened my fridge and grabbed a yogurt and scavenged the sink for a clean spoon.
I sat in front of the TV and flipped through the channels.
My mom, as if she was watching me, texted me to start any homework I had to do. I finished my yogurt, put the spoon back in the sink and headed for my desk in my room.
After checking all my social media, I turned on my music and started my -gag- math homework.
I heard the lock turn and the door open.
"Maya?"
"In here."
I turned off my music and Shawn walked into my room.
He was holding his laptop, as if he was playing with some editing software in his car for 30 minutes before coming upstairs, like always.
"Ok so I took some really cool pictures earlier and I was playing around with some effects and I thought maybe you could paint them later."
I looked over to my easel standing bleakly in the opposite corner of my room.
He placed his laptop on top of my text book and flipped through the pictures.
They were mostly of buildings and some of people.
I came across an old picture of him and my mom at their wedding, realizing I had never painted them before.
"Hey, how about this one?" I stopped at a picture of the ceremony.
"If you would like to..... I'll send you the proof after I make dinner."
"Well, I'm hungry and I have homework to do so I guess we should both go back to what we need to do." I teased.
"Ok 'model student' Maya."
He turned and closed the door behind him, knowing I would have a fit if he didn't.
Shawn was like the black rubber cementing they put in cracks in the road.
He looked out of place in our little broken family, but he fit perfectly.
I never called him dad, after him and my mom got married a couple of years ago, he had always been Shawn, even if he was like my dad.
Before I went back to my math homework, I got a text message from Lucas:
'I need to see you. Meet me at my house at 7:00?'
I checked the time, it was 5:00.
I texted back:
'Huckleberry! I am not a booty call!'
A minute later he responded:
'If the boot fits!'
I laughed and locked my phone.
At 6:00, Shawn call me to dinner.
My mom was setting up the table, I hadn't her come in.
"Hi mom." I sat down.
"Hey, sweetheart." I saw her look up at me with tired eyes. She probably wasn't even tired, that was just her default setting.
It's part of the Clutterbucket charm.
We sat and ate dinner until 6:30. My mom and Shawn each had a glass of wine and I sneaked sips of my moms.
"Can I be excused? Lucas invited me over." I got up from the table.
"For what?" My mom asked.
I hadn't made up an excuse. I'm losing my touch.
"Homework help." I said a bit to quickly.
Shawn looked at me questioningly.
"He's helping me with homework."
"Why don't you go to Riley's?" My mom asked.
"She has cheerleading practice."
My mom and Shawn switched glances.
"Ok." Shawn finally said.
"Thank you." I gave my mom a kiss and grabbed my bag and keys from the hook by the door.
I got to Lucas's house by 6:45 and decided to come in early. He wouldn't be doing anything important.
When I walked up to his door I knocked lightly and the door opened almost immediately.
Which meant his parents were home.A/N:
