Lucas POV

I saw Maya stand there humbly, she was strongly holding back tears from the crowds roar of applause.

My hands were about to fall off from the clapping I was doing myself.

Maya gave the mic back to the DJ and began walking towards my direction.

But, she wasn't exactly coming towards me. She stopped and gave Riley the biggest hug ever.

"Peaches! Oh! That was such a gorgeous speech!"

"Are you sure? Because I wasn't even sure what I was saying, words were just spilling out of me."

"Speaking of GORGEOUS!" Riley gasped and extended her arms out to see the full of Maya's gown.

"You like?"

"I LOVE"

Riley twirled Maya around and they laughed with each other.

Everyone then began to give Maya the utmost praise she deserved. I tried not to watch and began tugging at a loose string on my tux jacket.

"Lucas."

"Hey! Maya! Um, you look beautiful. I mean, um, everything looks beautiful. The art, the room, you."

"Yeah! Um, it's really all very nice. Thanks for coming!"

"Oh no problem.."

I looked up from the ground which my focus had seemed to be fixed on, but Maya was already was dragged away by Mr. Jackson to talk to some people.

Great job Lucas, the most beautiful girl in the world and you can't even look her in the eyes.

"Luke!" Zay's hand clapped in front of my face.

"Sorry, I wasn't listening."

"Hell yeah you weren't. Be right back I'm gonna go look for the mop so you can clean up all your drool."

"That obvious?"

"Oh! 'That obvious?' Yes. That obvious. Damn Lucas, I would never to think you'd be the guy to lose his balls over some girl." He said mockingly.

"Ha aren't you so funny!"

"Look Lucas, if you really wanna aid in getting Maya back. Don't be all gushy around her. Like trust me, I get weak at the knees whenever someone says the letter V. But, how are you supposed to get an even ground in what you want if you can't have a straight conversation with Maya with out getting all emotional and Nicolas Sparks-ish?"

"I got it. But she never even talks to me anymore."

"Never say never.."

I gave him a strange look but he just took a sip of his drink and acted like he didn't say anything.

I spent the night nibbling on cheese cubes, popping grapes into my mouth, and watching Maya grace her way through her night.

It sucked knowing I couldn't be there, right by her side.

I couldn't spend the night constantly giving her complements in her ear. just being there for her, calming her down. She must have been overwhelmed.

Text from Zay:

'ASAP bro. Meet me in the courtyard.'

I just saw him like two minutes ago. How much trouble could he get into in two minutes.

I looked around for Maya, but she was gone as well.

I chugged the last sip of what may or may not have been spiked soda and headed through the double doors into the courtyard.

I saw Maya outside of those doors, looking at her phone.

"Maya? Is everything okay?"

"Yeah, I just got a text from Riley to meet her in the courtyard."

"Same, except from Zay."

We stood in silence for the longest 30 seconds of my life.

"We should probably go see what it is they want." She turned towards the outside doors.

"Yeah."

We walked for a little before I broke the silence.

"How are you feeling? I mean, about your showcase."

"Um, overwhelmed. But, really happy. I haven't ever had anything all for myself before."

You had me, I thought.

But then I realized, no she didn't. She has to share me with Riley, wait for me when I was with Riley.

We walked out into the courtyard.

In the middle of it all, illuminating the dark night, there was a campfire.

A campfire.

I looked up.

Millions of stars in the sky.

I looked at Maya. She was looking around for Riley.

"I don't think they are here." I pointed to the fire. " I think it's something to get us back.

Maya scoffed. "Yeah, apparently so."

"Maya-"

"Lucas, I need to go back inside. People are waiting for me."

"Yeah, no problem. It's your night. Go do your thing."

She turned around and ran up the steps and I was hoping my Cinderella left a glass slipper on the way up.

I kicked some dirt and sat on the log in front of the campfire.

I pulled out the box I kept in my pocket at all times. I always had it in there for good luck, for courage.

"I'll never stop loving you Maya. I can't hurt the people I love. I promise my all to you."

I opened the box and scanned the promise ring I had bought right before I said my first 'I love you' to Maya.

Maybe one day.

A/N:

POOR LUCAS! I feel bad for him. It makes my heart hurt.

Also, quick question; Do you all prefer me to separate big events into a couple of medium sized chapters and switch POV OR  leave it all as one big chapter where its only one POV??
