Chapter Five: The Party

Lucas POV
"NO NO NO SARAH THAT GOES ON THE LEFT NOT THE RIGHT!" Maya yelled at her class mates scrambling around Topanga's with decorations and appetizers.
"Maya, relax, Riley is bringing Farkle here in 45 minutes. We have plenty of time." I walked over to her, took the clipboard out of her hand, and put my hands on her shoulders to "relax" her.
I know ever since I broke up with Riley, Maya has been tense around me. It's because of what happened in Texas 3 years ago. She felt secure because I was dating Riley, but now that I'm not, she is nervous I'm going to spill.
I won't, but I like to see her squirm.
I like to see her all the time, but that's besides the point.
"Lucas, you asked for my help. Here it is."
"Maya, where do I put the cake?" Zay carefully walked over to us holding a large sheet cake that said, "Happy Birthday Farkle Minkus, confirmed real boy!"
"Shit, Shit, Shit!" Maya nearly pulled her hair out, "Lucas, make your body useful and get a table from the closet and help Zay set it up." She swatted us off and proceeded to boss around the streamer squad.
"Lucas, Maya looks busy and I don't want her to yell at me so I am trusting you with the keys but make sure to give them to her. It's your responsibility since we let you kids stay here without adults!" Mr Matthews handed me the keys to the shop and headed out reluctantly.
We set up the cake and I looked back at the shop. I looked awesome.
Mostly because of Maya though.
"Ok guys!" Maya sat up on a chair and announced to the guests," Riley texted me and said they parked and will be here in two minutes! Lights off and places! Wow that was so enthusiastic. What is wrong with me."
Everyone hid in the dark and I took my place next to Maya.
"Why did I assign you to hiding spots Ranger Rick?" She whispered.
"I have something for you." I whispered close into her ear and handed her a flask.
She looked at me with confusion," Lucas," She took a deep breath, "Mr and Mrs Matthews said no alcohol, but I never expected you to bring it."
"Well do you want any so you can loosen up just a bit?"
"Please." She grabbed the flask from my hand and took a few sips. "Not bad, Cowboy. I expected some sort of wine cooler, but not bad."
"Please, I'm from Texas. Moonshine is our specialty-"
Maya put her finger to my lip.
"Sh, I think they are coming."
"Riley can't you just get your jacket tomorrow?"
"SURPRISE!" Everyone jumped and popped confetti.
Farkle jumped up and grasped his heart, "As much as I greatly appreciate the gesture, I nearly died two seconds go."
Maya chuckled and hugged Farkle, "Happy Birthday ya little genius."
"Thank you Maya, and everyone else for coming and for this party."
"We are welcome, now let's get this party started!" I yelled.
"Maya! It's really pretty!" Riley gushed, "Hi Lucas. Um, good job." She brushed over me.
"Thank you Riley." I smiled politely.
"Ok.... anyway. Lucas make sure no one is drinking because I don't need problems. Also, where is your flask?"
"Maya, doesn't that make you a hypocrite?" I suggested.
"Eh. Just-" She held out her hand.
I placed the half full flask in her hand, remembering I put another in my coat. "Be careful." I warned.
"Ranger Rick, please, I can't take care of myself." She took a swig and winced before taking another. "Bottoms up Cowboy."
