Lucas POV
I opened my front door with the 'toy-car' shaped key.
I walked, what seemed like 10 miles to my room, up the stairs stomping my feet along.
I walked in, kicked off my shoes, threw my backpack on the ground and fell on my bed.
A loud, exasperated groan slipped threw my closed mouth.

I must have fallen asleep because that's all I remember when I woke up three hours later.
The television in the living room was turned up, playing the game.
When my dad came to New York from Texas, he discovered ESPN. Something we didn't have where we used to live.
So, his life was work, me and mom, and television. In no particular order, or so he tells us.
I turned over in my sheets out my shoes. Which I hadn't feel asleep with. Meaning my mom had come in my room to fix me while I was sleeping.
I woke up and stretched on my way downstairs.
"Lucas? Honey? Is that you?"
"Yeah mom..." My groggy 'morning voice' escaped my voice.
"Come here Friar." My dads monotone voice demanded me.
I walked into my parents sitting at the kitchen table. They both say at the same end with coffee mugs, as of gent were waiting for me. It set the stage for an awkward conversation.
"Sit down sweetie." My mom motioned.
I sat down reluctantly, "Yes Ma'am and Sir."
"We wanted to talk to you." My mother readjusted her glasses. The modern frames looked out of place on her freckled nose, but she looked young for her age.
"What about?"
"We've noticed some changes in your behavior." My mom was clearly going to be the one to lead this conversation.
My parents, mostly my mom, were worried about me after my break up with Riley.

I am not even sure why because, frankly, I broke up with Riley and it had been two months.

And Maya. But I wasn't going to tell her about that either.

"Mom," I looked straight at her so she knew I was sincere, "I am fine, I promise."

She looked at my and looked at my father. He shrugged blatantly.

"Plus, I have homework to do so i should get back into my room." I got up from the table.

"Sweetie, it's Friday. Are you sure-"

"Yes, I'm sure. Call me if you need anything." I yelled back at them walking up the stairs.

When I got to my room, I checked my phone.

A 5 minute old text from Maya and a like on Instagram lit up my lock screen.

Maya text read, 'Are you coming over or what?'

I completely forgot that we had plans.

I responded, 'Fell asleep. Sorry. On my way in ten.'

I took a speedy shower, changed into a nice blue button down with khakis instead of the lazily put together athletic sweats and tee I wore to school.

I put on deodorant and cologne, grabbed my coat from the coat hanger, and quietly headed out of my house, knowing if my mom saw me dressed this nicely, I would get another 10 minutes of questioning.

I buzzed Maya's apartment and heard the intercom.

She used her 'home alone' deep, man voice. "Who's there?"

"It's me, an evil robber!" I responded with a little girl voice.

"Ok Cowboy, I'm coming down." She changed back into her regular voice.

She came down wearing a simple dress with stockings and boots, a coat, and a scarf. She was beaming, but not because of me, because it was nearly 40 degrees outside, only mid October, and it was her favorite type of weather.

I took her hand and squeezed it in mine. She hadn't been outside for a minute and it was already cold. Instead, she tried to find her way into my coat and put her head to my chest, hugging me.

"Cold?"
