Lucas POV

My mouth was still hung open from Maya confronting me I could start to taste flies.

"Friar!" My coach bellowed in his deep southern accent from the dugout. I looked over at him and he pointed his index finger right at me and motioned for me to go over there. I was in trouble.

"Yes sir?"

"Look.. a pretty boy like yourself I couldn't imagine you not having girl problems. However, when we recruited you from Texas to pitch for New York City's only junior league team.. I didn't sign up to be a part of Keeping Up with the Kardashians. No more shenanigans, got it?"

"Yes sir."

"Now, I have seen you play with an integrity that contradicts your files, but it's a strong integrity. One I can tell you've always had. Don't lose that integrity. On the field and off of it."

"Yes sir."

"Alrighty then," He took one of his deep old man sighs, "Back to the mound. And, uh, straighten up your elbow after your release."

I nodded to him and hustled back to the mound.

I couldn't help but laugh after I felt his eyes peel off of me. Coach had to be at least 70. Where did he hear of the Kardashians.

After practice, Danny came running after me. "Lucas!"

"Yeah, man, what's up?"

"Hey, if you're done with your girl issues, me and a couple of the guys are heading to Marc's."

"Eh, I don't know man.." I scratched the back of my neck. "I'm kinda beat. Sorry."

"Nah. It's straight."

I turned back around and headed for my car.

"Hey, Luke! Watch out for any slashed tires!" He chuckled and turned to the other direction.

I opened my trunk and grabbed my sneakers. I slipped off my cleats and threw them, along with my duffel bag into the truck of my car. I put on my shoes and got into my car.

With a roar of the engine on my 2012 Chevy, I rolled out of the parking lot, not even bothering to check my phone or turn on the radio.

It was a long 20 minute drive home and an even longer walk up to the front door of my home.

I shuffled for my house key in the front pocket of my duffel bag when two small hands covered my eyes.

I could tell off the bat they were girls hands or else I would've accidentally punched someone in the gut. Bad reflexes.

"Guess whoo.."

"Hey Sam." I put my hands over hers and peeled her hands from over my eyes.

She wasn't much shorter than me in the heels she was wearing. Her auburn curly hair was half pulled back and she was holding a small purse up against a flowery dress.

"Oh!" I finally put two and two together. "Was today your anniversary?"

She nodded and laughed. "Yep, me and Erik. One Year."

"How was it? Where'd he take you?"

"Oh just this cute little french cafe that serves these crepes.. OMG Luke! To. Die. For."

"Hmm, sounds good. Maybe I'll take a girl there if I was smart enough to last a year.."

"Hey, Lucas. You just gotta give it some time.. she'll come around. I'm still team Maya by the way.. Oh! and thanks again by the way for helping me look for an anniversary gift for Erik. And sorry for the whole flirting thing, also. Did I mention I naturally flirt?"

Yes, she was a talker.

"Ha! Funny thing actually.. Maya.. You know her you're on her team... Well she came to my practice because apparently I have a girlfriend. She was completely heartbroken and popped off on me in front of my whole team."

Sam started laughing. "I knew I liked her.. Well it was probably just miscommunication and she was hurt so she.. well.. exploded. Just talk to her."

"I'm not sure I'm ready for Maya again.. I mean, we've both talked about this.."

"Yes, that she scares you."

"No, what I feel for her scares me, I've never felt like this with anyone before."

"Two words Lucas: Talk to Her"

"That's three words."

"Shut up. You know what I mean."

"Fine. I'll try."

"Good... Well got to go bud! Heels kill man."

I turned the lock on my door, "Bye Sam!"

"Text ya later alligator!"
