I walked in the mall with jeans and a t shirt with an elf on it. Yes, I was in the Christmas spirit and it's only the second day of December.
I had no idea who this dude was. I knew his name was Parker or something. And I had his phone number, but no idea what he looked like.
I walked to where Carly's office was on the second floor near the back of the mall. She said that's where we were meeting.
"Hello?" I knocked on the door.
She smiled. "Come in, come in!" She said. "Parker said he would be here soon, so take a seat while we wait!" She was way to joyous for this.
I laughed and took a seat in her office. She asked how my family was and we caught up.
And soon enough there was another knock at the door. I turned my head to see a man who looked to be around my age. He had a huge smile plastered on his face. Should I be happy or scared that he already had this big of a smile?
"Come in, Parker!" Carly said. "Take a seat, and we'll begin our meeting." She smiled. Parker walked in and took the chair next to me.
"So, Ali, meet Parker, Parker, meet Ali." Carly introduced us.
I turned my body to face him and extend a hand to shake. He gladly took it with a bright smile. "Hey. Nice to meet you."
"Same goes to you." I said.
"Well, guys, tomorrow the whole group of people I've gotten together will meet to discuss 'saving the mall.'" Carly said.
There was another knock at the door and this time it was a familia face. "Hey!" Carly smiled.
"Carly, I need your help. Some stores are losing power and it is not good." She, her name is Liv, said with a worried emotion.
"Oh, God, okay. One second." Carly said and pulled out a few pieces of paper, and handed me a key. "Here are some ideas for the mall, here's the key to the storage room. You guys can start to get an idea. Here are some people in case you need to call. Of course, you'll have to hire a Santa. Good luck." She said and ran out with Liv, frantically speaking about the stores.
The door shut, leaving Parker and I in silence. He was the first to break it.
"I like your shirt." Parker said, nodding at the elf on my lower left side.
I smiled. "Thank you!"
"You're welcome." He said and took a pause. "So, what should we do first? Look at the storage room or get to know each other?" He smiled.
I let out a little laugh. "Why not both?"
"I like the way you think." Parker winked, he stood up as I did. We both walked out of the office and down to where the storage room was. I didn't know if he knew where it was, but I did, so i led the way.
"First question, are you from here?" He asked.
I nodded. "Born and raised." I said. "You?"
He shook his head. "Texas, moved here a few years ago, had to move back due to money, and my job is finally able to support me here." He said.
"Nice. Second question, hobbies?" I asked this time.
"Gaming is fun." He said.
"What do you play?" I asked.
"Eh eh eh, It's not your turn, what are your hobbies?" He smiled.
"Writing from time to time, baking every so often. I grew up around my mom being a designer, so I really love to decorate." I answered.
"Like interior designing?" He asked.
"Yep." Simple answer. "Uh, what games do you play?" I said as we found the door to the storage room.
"I try to play a lot of things. But Minecraft is definitely my favorite." He smiled. "You play any games?"
I shrugged. "Not really, I don't have brothers to want me to play these games with them. I have, however, played Minecraft like, twice." I said.
And of course, me being myself, tripped over a box.
"Oh my god, are you okay?!" Parker said, as he stood above me. He reached his hand out to help me up.
I nodded. "I'm fine. That, uh, that happens a lot." And we both laughed.
"Clumsy?" He asked as I stood back up.
I nodded. "Basically my middle name."
"Ah, fun."
Soon enough, we looked around the whole storage room to see what we had to work with. We were back and working on a plan. "Maybe we could hang decorations from, well, maybe that's a stupid idea." Parker would say. He second guesses himself a lot, which makes me wonder about what his job could be.
I didn't really ask, though. That's a little personal and I wasn't one for wanting to make people feel uncomfortable.
We finally came up with a plan and it was only four pm. I had to get going so I could work my shift at my grandparents restaurant and he needed to do something.
"See you, and the rest of the recruits, at ten am?" I confirmed.
"Yep." He nodded. "See ya around, Ali."
