Chapter 1: Yannied

When Yannied was born,she had a birthmark in the shape of a dragon on her arm.Her parents thought that it was strange,and brought her to Stoick,the chief of the village.He could not figure out the meaning of Yannied's birthmark either,so Yannied was brought to Gothi.Once Gothi saw the birthmark,she nodded approvingly.She explained that at the same time Yannied was born,a new species of dragon was also created.The news spread around the village like wildfire,and people came to see Yannied's special birthmark.

Sadly,some vikings feared the new dragon was highly dangerous and would wipe out Berk in no time.They believed Yannied would bring them to Berk in the future and destroy them all.Blinded by fright,the vikings formed a mob and threatened to kill Yannied if her parents did not abandon her by the next day.Yannied's parents begged for mercy,but to no avail.They could not bear to kill their newborn daughter.So,they bravely refused to abandon her.Just as an angry viking was about to lunge forward and slash Yannied,Stoick roared at everyone to stop.

"She's just an innocent baby.How would you know that dragons are coming to this village?They aren't as clever as that!"he bellowed.From then on,Yannied was able to live,but vikings shunned her.

The years passed and Yannied grew both in knowledge and strength.By the time Yannied was three,she could walk,talk a little and even lift a dagger.On her fourth birthday,her father gave her an axe.

"Take good care of this.It will help you slay dragons,my daughter,"he told her.Yannied nodded eagerly and took the axe.She admired its shiny blade and the strong handle.Yannied practiced throwing her axe at fake dragons which were merely made of some cloth and sticks.Soon,she could lift the axe above her head and throw it two metres away.

Time flew past like a fleeing dragon.Yannied grew up to be a strong,fine viking girl of fifteen.She could fight dragons,but she could not slay them.She just could not bring herself to do it.

"Father,Mother,I told you a million times,I cannot kill such an innocent creature!"she would tell her parents over and over again after a dragon had nearly killed her.

Then,one year later,Hiccup Horrendous Haddock,son of the village chief Stoick,befriended Toothless the Night Fury.Peace formed between the dragons and vikings.Soon,almost everyone had a dragon but Yannied.Every wild dragon she tried to tame simply snapped at her or flew away.

She never understood why.
