Chapter 33:A Scar For A Scar

Eel Island was not far off from dark Deep,and we got there in fairly good time.But all this flying was really wearing everyone out,both dragons and riders.We landed on Eel Island,with much hissing from our dragons."Stay on the shore and don't go further than that.I'll go get the Eel Beans and leave Astrid in charge,"he instructed before walking off with a very reluctant Toothless."I'm coming with you.I caused all this,and anyways,I haven't gotten a single ingredient by myself,"I insisted.After some contemplation,Hiccup agreed unwillingly.We walked over to a large pool not far off from the shore."Here's one of the infamous eel pools.Infested with eels,"Hiccup told me,gesturing to the pool.I shuddered at the sight.Eels were twisting and wriggling simply everywhere in the pool.I searched for the Eel Beans and found a short stalk of them near the surface."There!I'll get it,"I nudged Hiccup before kneeling down before the pool.I reached into the water and grabbed hold of the stalk before uprooting it.

"LOOK OUT!"Hiccup shouted,giving me a hard shove from behind.I was pushed away from the pool and suddenly heard choking noises.I sat up to see a red eel wrapped tightly round Hiccup's neck.Toothless growled and snapped at the eel.Hiccup staggered backwards while pulling at the eel and stumbled into the pool."Hiccup!"I cried,diving into the pool without second thought.The eels in the pool were snapping and squirming round Hiccup.Some were wrapped round his arms and legs,pulling him down into the deep pool.I wrestled with the one round his neck.It hissed and bit at me.Grabbing its head,I yanked off its head.No blood came out,much to my surprise.I grabbed Hiccup and tried to pull him to the surface.But the eels were fiercer and stronger as a group than I thought.Soon,I had one wrapped round my own neck.It squeezed all the breath out of me.My throat felt crushed.The wicked eel must have noticed my suffocated look,because it only clung to my neck tighter than ever.

If it hadn't been for Hiccup and Toothless,I'd never have survived.Before I died of suffocation,Hiccup tugged at the eel's head.With much effort,he managed to pull it right off.The eel's body round my neck fell away.Toothless grabbed my foot and dragged me to surface before diving back into the pool to save his rider.I spluttered as I choked on the large volumes of water I had accidentally consumed.Water spewed out of my mouth continuously until I had forced every drop of 'eel water' out from my body.A large splash of water from the pool almost made me jump out of my skin.Toothless was dragging Hiccup out of the pool.He was in the same state as I was:choking and coughing and water running out of his mouth.We lay there on the ground for a minute,trying to stop gasping for air.

"We didn't get the Eel Beans,and probably never will,"I groaned."Says who?What's that in your hand?"Hiccup answered in a hollow voice.I raised my bunched-up fist to my face and uncurled my fingers.There,nestled in the palm of my soaked hand,was a turquoise-blue plant with pinkish beans hanging from it.I grinned tiredly in delight."Let's get back to the rest,"Hiccup suggested,getting up without waiting for a reply.I followed and we trudged back to the others.Astrid caught sight of us and immediately demanded,"Did you get the Eel Beans?""Yeah.We sure didn't go through a whole lot of trouble to get it,I can assure you,"Hiccup remarked sarcastically,shaking his wet,dripping hair.I untied my drenched braid and tried to dry my hair before braiding it neatly again.Hiccup took the Eel Beans and stored it in his satchel.

"By the way,we got a pretty easy solution to the Scauldron venom.Remember Scauldy,Ruffnut's 'pet Scauldron'?Ruffnut says she knows where Scauldy lives,somehow,"Astrid reported,sharpening her battleaxe."Then let's not waste anymore time and get there,"Hiccup coughed a little as he got onto Toothless."Ruff,lead the way!"Hiccup ordered.Ruffnut instantly nodded eagerly.We saddled up and followed her away from Eel's Island far away towards the direction of Berk."He wrote me a letter saying he was living in Seashell Rock,a little way off from Berk,"Ruffnut explained as we flew along."Ruff,Scauldrons do not and cannot write letters,"Astrid rolled her eyes from afar."Oh fine!Tuffnut found him,"Ruffnut confessed.We reached Seashell Rock in no time at all.It was a tiny little island covered in a million shells,thus the name."Scauldy!Oh Scauldy!"Ruffnut called,clapping and whistling in a most annoying way.I was excited as I had never seen a Scauldron before in my life.

Out of the blue,a giant deep-blue dragon with a horn on its thin head and a huge stomach with a strong,vicious-looking tail came splashing out to surface.Its size shocked me."Heya Scauldy!"Ruffnut smiled at the Scauldron.She made Barf lower her towards it and stroked its head lovingly."Uh,Ruff,I thought Scauldy was green,not blue,"Hiccup piped up."Yeah,Scauldy is green!This is Scauldy!He's-,"Ruffnut's face fell as she realised her probably-fatal mistake.The Scauldron snarled at her and suddenly,its mouth swelled up in a moment."WATCH IT!"somebody hollered as a short burst of its notorious scalding-hot water sailed through the air.Frostbite,who I was riding on,swerved to the side and immediately shot a frost blast at the Scauldron.It roared and dived under the sea."It's swallowing more water for another blast,"Nevaeh assumed.She was right.It soon came up again and aimed carefully at Ruffnut.Screaming her head off,she and Tuffnut flew for their lives.

"Oliver!Distract the Scauldron while we fetch a giant eel from Eel Island!"Hiccup commanded."Why is it always me?!"Oliver protested weakly."You can have Zack,Yannied,Cassie and Jessica to help you,"Hiccup replied.Oliver groaned in exasperation."Fireproof,shoot!"he ordered.Fireproof let loose some flames at the Scauldron.It spat some water at Oliver.A sudden hiss and a scream of pain rattled the air."What's wrong,Oliver?!"Zack called as Deathroar shot a series of spines at the Scauldron.Oliver was covering half his face and he was howling while flying away from the Scauldron.Cassie made Frostbite whack the Scauldron in the face with his spiky icicle-implanted tail.Zack was staring at Oliver's face in alarm."Retreat!"Zack commanded.We flew away from the Scauldron and climbed higher into the air,just to be safe."What's happened?"Jessica asked worriedly."Oliver got scalded by the Scauldron,"Zack told us.Oliver looked at us.I bit back a scream that welled up in my throat.

Oliver's right cheek was redder than fire and looked extremely painful.Silent tears were streaming down his face."Jessica,take Oliver back to Berk and press some soft fabric soaked in ice water onto the burn.We'll deal with the Scauldron,"Zack instructed."No.I want to pay back the Scauldron for this.I'll give it a scar as painful as the one it gave me,"Oliver gritted his teeth as he spoke.Everyone was quiet,but we knew Oliver's stubborness would never be overcome."Be careful,alright?"Zack pleaded.Oliver ignored him and swooped down on Fireproof towards the Scauldron."Follow close behind.If Oliver starts doing anything stupid,drag him straight back to Berk,"Zack told us.We nodded and followed after.

But Oliver was too late.Hiccup,Astrid,Nevaeh and the twins had already reached the Scauldron.But this time,it was not a deep-blue but a sea-green Scauldron."That'th the one that belongs to the girl called Ruffnut,right?"Cassie questioned."Belongs.That's.Lisp.She.My lisp is gone,finally!"Cassie exclaimed in delight,a huge grin plastered on her face.We flew down to the Scauldron."Where were you guys?!"Hiccup demanded."Long story.We'll tell you on Berk,"Zack interrupted,taking great care to hide Oliver."Well,we found Scauldy,which is the friendly Scauldron.Now we just gotta extract some of his venom and we can get the final ingredient,"Hiccup explained.Ruffnut was on the island with Scauldy's head bowed down to her.She covered the mouth of a flask with a cloth and made Scauldy bite down on the cloth.Purple liquid began seeping through the cloth into the flask.We soon had a full flask of Scauldron venom,which Hiccup carefully capped with a cork and stowed away in his satchel.

"Where's the other blue Scauldron?He owes me something,"Oliver growled as he brandished a sharp dagger he had."Oliver,your face!What-,"Hiccup stared at the angry red mark.His face changed as I saw that he understood what happened."Oliver,although that Scauldron hurt you,it doesn't mean you should hurt it back.Just think about it,we Vikings probably killed a hundred Scauldrons before they even touched us back then.Do the Scauldrons a favor and leave them alone,"Hiccup tried to persuade Oliver.But he remained adamant."WHERE ARE YOU,YOU MISERABLE LIZARD?!"he spat towards the ocean.Right on cue,the blue head popped out of the ocean,still growling.Without warning and before anyone could stop him,Oliver hurled the dagger towards the blue Scauldron.The dagger sliced the Scauldron's face and blood began streaming out from the Scauldron's chin.It gave a shocked snort and disappeared back into the ocean,the blood mixing with the foam of the waves as the waves crashed down on the shores of Seashell Rock.

Everything was silent.Then,Oliver bellowed,"A scar for a scar!You've paid your debt," before zooming off back to Berk.Jessica followed behind after a nod from Zack.

Everybody remained silent.
