Chapter 10:Flying

This chapter takes place before Castaway was stolen by Gustav. This chapter is based on Gustav's POV.

I watched as Yannied slammed the door shut, not even bothering to say goodbye to me.I felt my blood boiling and the anger consuming me.How dare Yannied not allow me to ride her dragon! It looked so cool and awesome.I knew that if I rode it,my friends would all envy me and I would be so famous and envied!I looked at the large shed used to accommodate her dragon. His name was Castaway, right? It probably was.

I tried to think of a brilliant idea to prank Yannied and anger her for not letting me ride Castaway.Maybe I could steal her precious axe and put it in dragon dung?Or I could trample her flowers?Maybe I could even throw her dragon saddle into the sea! Then,a wonderful idea came into my clever mind.

I fetched an axe from my house and ran to Castaway's shed.I glanced around to make sure no one was in sight.Sure enough,no one was around. It was late at night after all. Then,I raised the heavy axe and brought it down upon the shed's lock.In four slashes, the lock was broken into half.I opened the door.Castaway was curled up,his eyes half-closed.His eyes widened when he heard the creaking of the door opening. When he realized it was me and not his owner,he began to growl fiercely, making my hairs stand up on end.

"Nice dragon,Castaway,"I held out my hand nervously.I dropped my axe and stretched out my hand,my palm facing Castaway.I had seen Hiccup do it a hundred times,so I knew how to make Castaway trust me.

Sure enough, after a few seconds,Castaway touched my sweaty palm.I grinned at him and made him stand up."Come on,boy. We gotta fly,"I whispered.I hunted for the saddle and strapped it to Castaway. He grunted and shook himself slightly.I climbed up his back and sat upon the saddle. Then,I remembered that I would have to cover up my tracks.I dismounted Castaway and took up my axe.I hacked at the door facing the inside of the shed, making it seem like dragon claw marks. Now,everybody would think Castaway had escaped by himself!I grinned and mounted Castaway again. We flew out of the shed.

I decided that I would go to a nearby island."Castaway, fly fast to the north!"I commanded.Castaway kept on going forward, not turning to the left, which was north."I said to the north!"I yelled louder, but not loud enough for other people to hear.Still,Castaway kept flying forward.I grew angry.

"Stupid dragon!Do you know what north is?"I asked angrily, hitting the back of his neck.Castaway grunted."To the LEFT!"I ordered fiercely.Castaway whimpered and turned to the left.We flew rather slowly to the island."Castaway, fly faster!"I said.Castaway flapped his wings harder. We surged forth.

I enjoyed the sudden burst of speed and decided to do it again."Castaway, faster!"I barked, digging my heels into Castaway. He flapped his wings faster still. We shot forward. The island still seemed quite far."Go faster,go faster!"I ordered, slapping Castaway and kicking him to make him go faster.Castaway growled and grunted and whimpered, but I paid no attention. All I wanted to do was to arrive at the island and claim it for my own."Stupid dragon!Slow dragon! Can't you go faster?!"I whined as I brought my fist down upon the back of Castaway's neck.He didn't seem as cool as he did anymore.

Suddenly,Castaway roared furiously and overturned sharply.I was thrown off Castaway with his saddle.I shouted as I fell into the ocean.I held on tightly to the saddle to prevent my self from drowning, because the saddle floated on the water.I heard an enormous splash.Castaway! He had fallen into the water!I saw him trying to beat his wings and fly out of the water. He roared at me before taking off.He flew away quickly, ignoring my cries for help.I clung miserably to the saddle.I could not swim to save myself as I did not know how to.Anyway,I would never make it to shore without my limbs freezing off.

I was freezing cold, tired, scared and hungry. When would I ever be saved?
