Chapter 32:Quaking in The Fissures

P.S. Catastrophic Quaken,Dark Deep and info about the Quaken belongs to Dreamworks Dragons and Wikipedia respectively.BUT granite-sandstone is not real,just something I made up.

I bolted upright as the noise of raindrops pattering on the ground outside woke me.Looking around,I noticed that everyone was still asleep.The fire had gone out.Getting to my feet,I shuffled quietly out of the cave and into the icy rain.I gathered a pile of dry branches and twigs,then heaped them on the dead fire pit.I sharpened one end of a stick with a sharp stone and began rubbing it fiercely against another stick.Smoking embers formed in a matter of seconds.I added a small leaf to the embers and watched as the leaf burst into flames after smoking for a second.I hurriedly placed it on the heap of sticks and watched the fire burn.I stared right into the heart of the flames,just thinking about everything that had been circulating through my head.About Castaway,about finding more dragons like Castaway,about finding the sisters,about the adventures of being a dragon rider like Hiccup,about my parents,about being back on Berk safe and sound.But mostly,I thought about all the adventures I could have with Castaway once he got well.After all,I was only sixteen.I still had a lot to go through.And I now had so many wonderful friends like Zack,Nevaeh and Oliver,not to mention the sisters.And Hiccup and his dragon-rider group."I can set one up,can't I?I can set a dragon-riding group up and be the leader,"I whispered to myself.Already,I was thinking of several awesome,cool-sounding names for my group."Something like...The Racing Champions!Or maybe even The Fearless Adventurers,"I wrote these names on the soft dirt ground with my sharp rock.

I then heard the sound of someone stirring and quickly rubbed out the names with my foot."Yannied?Up already?"Hiccup's voice whispered.He walked over and sat down beside me,warming his hands by the fire."What else do we need off the list?"I questioned.Hiccup shoved the list of ingredients into my hand."Granite-sandstone from Dark Deep,glowing algae from the Flightmare's home,Eel Beans and Scauldron venom,"I checked off the ingredients we already had."Hiccup,do you sometimes just burn with the desire to find more Night Furies?"I asked the question that had been running round my mind."Indeed,I do.It's one of the things I wanna do for Toothless,"he admitted,stroking Toothless' head as Toothless lay his head on Hiccup's lap."It always kinda makes me sad whenever I see my fellow dragon riders' dragons with their own kind,like Stormfly with other Deadly Nadders,and Hookfang with other Monstrous Nightmares.But,Toothless...Toothless has nobody but me,"he continued."I know that feeling now,"I sighed heavily."Well,we do have proof that there is more than one Thundering Twister,since we found an egg.Who knows,there may be a whole island of Thundering Twisters.You just gotta look harder once everything blows over,"Hiccup reassured me.The corners of my lips lifted just a little.The rain softened to a light drizzle.

Just then,Astrid awoke and sat beside Hiccup.We three chatted for a few minutes before going out to find some breakfast.We flew over the island and found a ton of thornberry bushes and gathered the thornberries for breakfast.Then we headed back,woke the others up and ate the thornberries before preparing to set off for the next island,Dark Deep.I mounted Frostbite and waited for everyone else to saddle up and get on their dragons."All set?"Hiccup called as he mounted Toothless.Everybody nodded.Hiccup flew off,with the rest of us following.He took out a map and studied it carefully."Dark Deep is a rocky island inhabited by the Catastrophic Quaken and Gronckles.The Gronckles aren't a problem,but the Catastrophic Quaken is the one you have to look out for.It is a huge dragon with a lower jaw that is split into two.The Quaken can curl up into a boulder and roll into either its prey or its predators as a form of attack or defense.It can also smash into the ground with powerful strength and create a shock wave strong enough to knock dragons down whether on land or in the air,so be careful if you are ever near it,"Hiccup warned as we flew over the sea to the island.It was a long trip,and by the time we reached the expected destination,I was dozing off.
