Chapter 34:The Final Ingredient

"Let's just all go on without Oliver and Jessica.We've only got one last ingredient after all,"Astrid suggested.Everyone agreed.Ruffnut hugged Scauldy and we all waved goodbye before going off to find the Flightmare."Fortunately,the gang and I have been tracking down the Flightmare these past few years.We know its exact location now,which is on a small island that is full of the glowing algae the Flightmare feeds on.Now,I want to remind you guys that the Flightmare can spray a paralysing mist that will paralyse you for a few minutes before wearing off,so stay clear of the mist,"Hiccup instructed as we followed him to where the Flightmare apparently was.I had seen the drawings of the Flightmare in the Book of Dragons.They were apparently extremely dangerous and mystical.

Hiccup led us to where the Flightmare was.The island wasn't at all difficult to identify since its waters were glowing a bright crystal-blue."Now watch out for the-,"Hiccup's warning was interrupted as a horrible screech resounded through the island.A bright blue dragon with a barely-visible blue mist surrounding its body flew up out of nowhere.It was glowing blue with skinny blue legs and wispy-looking wings that glowed at the edges.It did indeed look mystical and magical,almost ghostly.The Flightmare screeched again and dived down suddenly."It's like as if it knows we're here and is showing itself so that we know it's warning us or something,"Cassie trembled,having never seen a Flightmare before."All we need to do is to get three flasks of glowing algae.That should be a little more than a bucketful,"Hiccup told us,taking out four flasks instead of three."I'm getting a little extra to study and find out how it makes the Flightmare glow and what's in it that makes it glow,"he explained as we all glanced furtively at the fourth flask.

We all dived down and landed by a glowing algae stream.I knelt down by the algae and scooped up a little bit in my hands.The water dribbled out of my hand while the algae remained.It was glowing a bright light blue.After pondering for a second,I quietly slipped a couple of strands of glowing algae to study.Hiccup tossed a flask to me,Zack and Nevaeh."Scoop up enough so that it's kinda fifty percent algae and fifty percent glowing water,"Hiccup instructed as he bent down by the water.I dipped the flask in the stream and filled it,but there was too much algae.I emptied the flask and tried again.Now it had too much water.Zack and Nevaeh weren't having much luck either.We just sat there for about ten minutes trying our hardest to get the contents right,but we hardly came close.Hiccup was struggling just as much,if not more.

Suddenly,Astrid came up with a brilliant plan."Scoop up only algae and fill half the bottle with it.Then skim the surface of the stream to get water and fill up the rest of the bottle,"she explained.I dipped my hand into the stream and grabbed a handful of algae before stuffing it into the bottle."IT WORKS!"Nevaeh cheered."Nevaeh!Sh!The Flightmare will hear us!"Hiccup hissed.But his warning came too late.Before anyone knew it,there was that spine-chilling screech.A blinding blue Flightmare soared into the sky in front of us.I watched as its eyes glared angrily at us with the algae-filled bottles we held."Dragons!"Hiccup cried,jumping on Toothless.Zack,Nevaeh and I panicked and dropped the flasks,leaving them on the ground.Cassie pulled me onto Frostbite."To temporarily knock out the Flightmare,everyone's dragons have to eat some of the glowing algae so that our dragons glow.Then we'll surround the Flightmare.The brightness will kinda blind the Flightmare so much it gets knocked out,somehow,"Hiccup shouted out the plan to the rest of us.

Out of the blue,Nevaeh stopped Death and Skull."I'm sick and tired of being chased by dragons!I'm gonna chase the Flightmare instead,just to change the tides for now!"she exclaimed.I watched in awe as she bravely made Death and Skull send a blast of sparked gas towards the Flightmare.It stopped with a snarl and snapped viciously at Nevaeh."Nevaeh,you distract the Flightmare while the rest of us get our dragons to eat some algae,"Hiccup yelled.Nevaeh nodded in reply and stuck her tongue out at the Flightmare before flying off."Let's move it!We gotta eat as fast as we can,since Nevaeh can't hold off the Flightmare for very long,"Astrid told us."Chow down,guys!"Hiccup shouted as he made Toothless skim the surface of the stream to eat the algae.Cassie made Frostbite dive and eat a whole lot of algae.Soon,Frostbite was glowing blue!Toothless was purple,Stormfly was yellow,Barf and Belch were green and Deathroar was sort of a grayish blue."Um,Ruff,Tuff,did you really have to cover yourself in the stuff as well?"Astrid rolled her eyes at the twins,who were covered in glowing algae."That might actually help,considering the fact we need as much light as possible.Everyone,douse yourself in glowing algae!"Hiccup ordered,beginning to smother the algae all over himself.Astrid got down reluctantly and poured algae over herself."This stuff looks disgusting,like a dragon that threw up digested fish or something,"Cassie wrinkled her nose as she covered herself in as little algae as possible.I scooped up the stuff and rubbed it all over myself,even my hair.

Soon,everyone was glowing really brightly."This should work,"Hiccup remarked."HICCUP!"a scream came down from the sky.Looking up,we saw Nevaeh and the Flightmare.Nevaeh looked weary and exhausted."Get behind us and get your dragon to eat the algae.And cover yourself in it too!"Zack yelled back."Get in a circle round the Flightmare and don't let it get out until we knock it out,"Hiccup commanded.We mounted our glowing dragons and shot towards the Flightmare and circled it.Suddenly,it screeched as it tried to find a way out.But it couldn't escape,no matter how hard it tried.All our dragons combined were so bright it even dazzled me a little.And with us,the riders,it was really bright.Before anybody knew it,the Flightmare began falling towards the ground.Toothless and Astrid dived down to catch it before laying it gently on the earth."Leave it here.It'll wake up soon,so we better hurry,"Astrid said.We headed back to where we had left the flasks and finished the job hastily.I corked the three flasks and gave them to Hiccup,who placed them safely in his satchel.

"Time to go-,"Zack was cut off by a sudden frightening screech.It echoed round us like as if we were in a cave.Three bright,crystal blue dragons came up out of nowhere."There's...There's more than just one Flightmare here!"Cassie stammered."RUSH BACK TO BERK,NOW!"Hiccup hollered in a frenzy.Everybody rushed for their dragons.We were up in the air and flying off in a blink of an eye with the three Flightmares right on our dragons' tails,literally."AH!"Zack gave a sudden cry.I turned and shrieked.He was falling from the sky with a motionless Deathroar.Instantly diving down,Nevaeh chased after Zack.I ducked suddenly as a Flightmare shot its paralysing mist at us.All our glows had worn off,so we couldn't possibly ward off the Flightmares again."I got Zack!"Nevaeh cried triumphantly from below.I caught a glimpse of Death and Skull holding Deathroar's body with their legs."Zack and Deathroar got paralysed,"I reported to Cassie.She trembled.A sudden hissing sound made my heart stop for a moment.Without warning,the left half of my body became icy cold.I couldn't move!My mouth refused to talk.My arm froze in place.My legs were stiff.I began sliding off Frostbite's back.Panicking,I screamed.The right side of my mouth still could open a little,so my scream was heard.Cassie turned.Her eyes almost popped out."Grab Yannied before she falls off!"someone shouted.Cassie grasped my shoulder with one hand and held on to the saddle with the other.I felt myself slipping off.The right side of my body,which could still function,grabbed onto Frostbite's skin.

It was really scary,being chased by a ruthless dragon while being paralysed and hanging off the back of a dragon a hundred feet above ground."GET OUTTA HERE,YOU MUTTONHEADED DRAGONS!"the familiar voice of Nevaeh came up from behind.The only sounds I could hear was the noise of gas being sparked and the screeches from the Flightmares.Nevaeh kept screaming insults at the Flightmares,but it did quite a lot of good.Right before I almost slipped off Frostbite and plummeted down to earth,Nevaeh gave a victorious cry."I drove them away!"she cheered.

It took a while for the paralysis effect to wear off.Zack and Deathroar returned to normal as well.We returned to Berk,cheering and singing all the way.We had gotten all the ingredients!Now,it was time to get Castaway well again.

~An Hour Later~

We landed back on Berk in a matter of an hour and headed straight for the Academy.As I entered,my heart stopped.My jaw dropped.
