Chapter 3:Yannied's Discovery

The next day,Yannied told her parents that she would be going to Rolling Hills,where she would be climbing the whole day.Her mother gave her a loaf of bread and some apples in a bag for her lunch.Yannied set off,excitement in her heart.

Yannied ran all the way to the shore.She spotted the rocky structure and waded into the sea towards it.Yannied felt the water freeze her bones.She ignored the chilly feeling and began to swim.She had worn a blue cloak so people flying overhead on their dragons wouldn't see her easily against the water.Yannied swam quickly,but the distance between her and the structure did not seem to grow any shorter. Yannied was feeling tired.She couldn't go any further as her legs just could not move.Suddenly,she gave a groan of exasperation and turned so that her back faced the sea.She floated like that,wondering if anybody would see her.She breathed heavily,for the swimming had taken a lot of her effort.Yannied felt lost and helpless,but she stayed strong and shut her eyes.

Bump!Her head bumped against something hard.Yannied hissed and turned to see if she had bumped into a boat.But what greeted her was the bottom of the rock structure.Yannied had reached it after all!She felt her strength return and grabbed the rock.This time,she climbed it with ease because she had already scaled it once.Yannied reached the top and cried out victoriously.

Yannied sat down for a break after the long swim.She took out an apple from her bag and began munching on it.She also found a fish sandwiched between her bread.Her mother had actually given her a fish sandwich!Yannied opened up the sandwich.There was a piece of halibut inside.

"Not exactly my favourite fish,but it's better than nothing,"Yannied shrugged.She looked at the bushes scattered around the place and thought that it would be fun if she took the seeds from her apple and planted it near a bush.Yannied ate up the rest of the apple and took the seeds.She scanned the area for a good place to plant them.

Soon,she found a suitable place nearby a bush.Yannied dug up the earth with her hands.She placed a seed in the hole and covered it back up.

Whoosh...

The bush beside Yannied suddenly moved a little.Yannied glanced at it.The bush moved again.She curiously peered into the bush.What laid right in the middle of the bush took away Yannied's breath.

"A dragon egg!"she whispered breathlessly.The egg was shaking slightly.It was a deep purple,speckled with rich yellow.Cracks were forming at the top of the egg.Yannied hardly dared to touch it,just in case it cracked.She didn't have to worry though.

The egg suddenly exploded,making Yannied stumble back.She fell backwards and landed flat on the ground.Sitting up,Yannied spotted a baby dragon sitting in the middle of bits of broken egg-shell.It was so adorable that it melted Yannied's heart.It had bright,striking yellow eyes,dark purple skin and yellow stripes.It had a giant mouth,even for a newborn dragon,a tiny but long body and the smallest wings you could possibly imagine.But what was so strange about the dragon was that it had an abnormally long body  for a baby.It also had strange sharp spines on its back the size of an adult hand.The baby dragon saw Yannied and tried to stand up.Yannied giggled and walked towards it.The baby dragon flapped its wings as hard as it could,successfully standing up in the process.It shakily ran to Yannied.It leapt into her arms and snuggled there happily.Yannied was so surprised and happy that a dragon had actually made contact with her!She studied it carefully.It did not seem like any dragon anyone had seen before.She needed to get back to Berk and ask Hiccup,the expert on dragons.Yannied certainly couldn't swim back,so what was she to do?

"Hey Yannied!"a male voice called out.Yannied turned to see Snotlout on his dragon,Hookfang.He slid off his dragon and landed near Yannied.Hookfang descended by his side.A brilliant idea suddenly appeared in Yannied's mind.

Without hesitation,Yannied leapt onto Hookfang's saddle and commanded him to fly off to Berk.Snotlout was slow to react.Yannied managed to get away and flew straight to Berk.She landed with her baby dragon in her arms,safe.She patted Hookfang gratefully before sending him to pick up his rider.Yannied raced to the Great Hall,where she knew Hiccup was reading the Book of Dragons.She threw open the doors and ran to Hiccup,who was also with Astrid and Fishlegs.

"Hiccup!I found this little guy on a lonely rock structure out at sea.He's a dragon species I've never seen before.Do you know what he is?"Yannied asked.Hiccup took the little dragon.It nipped his nose playfully.Toothless sniffed it curiously.Hiccup finally spoke after a while.

"I have never seen this little guy before!He very well may be a new species!"Hiccup exclaimed.

"Since you found him,you can name him and the dragon species!Fishlegs,looks like we have another chapter to fill up!"Hiccup said,handing back the baby dragon.Yannied looked at it fondly.

"Right now,we can't name his species because we don't know what he is capable of or where he came from.As for his name,I guess I can just call him 'Castaway' for now,because he was stranded on the rock structure,"Yannied decided."Now,go home and feed him.He'll like fish.Tomorrow,bring Castaway to the Academy.We need to find out as much about him as possible,"Hiccup instructed.Yannied nodded and ran back home.Fortunately,her parents accepted the little baby dragon immediately.Her mother gave the little thing a small minnow to eat.

"He's gonna be my best friend for life!"Yannied declared proudly,cuddling Castaway.
